Dana confirms UFC 190 is highest selling PPV of the year

McGOAT wipes his tears with $$$

Conor cries emeralds.

This is an impressive feat by Ronda, but she's been champ for quite awhile now and had more time to build her fan base.

Only recently has she really exploded into the mainstream. The ESPY award and her last three fights ending in record setting time have catapulted her fame beyond that of just another MMA champion.

Conor has done amazingly well for a guy who is only interim champion. His Game of War and other commercials show remarkable success for someone who hasn't been in the UFC that long.

Ronda and Conor are clearly the new stars of the UFC.

War Rousey

Nah, the promotional tour focused on McGregor/Aldo, but it was promoting the UFC and its brand. 190 benefitted from its placement after 189 while the UFC brand was still fresh in the minds of casuals who tend toward Rousey regardless.

That tour pays dividends well beyond 189.

The world tour was for conor vs aldo. When that fizzled out, it was a like a huge balloon filled to capacity and once that fight fell through, the balloon just fizzled down about halfway. the world tour pretty much meant nothing. It was headline by a guy that isn't the champion. and it still sold near a million.

Ronda is the champion. I think it will be interesting moving forward, who sells more ppv's now. conor or ronda. Cause now, conor is the champion or interim. HIs drawing power has increased. Every card, his drawing power is increasing exponentially. I think if the conor vs aldo fight happens now, it will blow anything ronda does, proably except her vs cyborg. That will pretty much outsell anything. haha

Lol McGregor nuthugger excuses. The UFC has dumped 10x more promoting Conor than Rousey. They put him on the biggest card of the year with the biggest embedded double series of the year, while they dump Ronda on a fight night level card in Brazil. Dana even said himself in a very recent 189 interview that Conor is the biggest star, not Ronda, that tells you the UFC's expectations. And Ronda still blew past him in PPV numbers. With a card in Brazil.

You can give Conor another 3 years and he's not getting the same level of mainstream reach Ronda is except in Ireland, not remotely. Sure he's doing well compared to these other sub 400K champions like Cain and Weidman. But he's still pathetically playing second fiddle to a 135lbs woman. Mystic Mac prediction FAIL.

How on earth is this Dana confirming anything? If the UFC made the picture then fine but if it was made by some fan and he's congratulating her it doesn't mean shit. He's not going to say 'well actually Ronda, ufc 189 was the highest selling PPV of the year but congrats on the other things'.

Thats too bad, what a horrible PPV that was. Probably the worst one of the year.

It was far from an overnight thing. Her popularity has been trending upward rapidly for the last 2 years.

Prior to the Davis fight her twitter followers were only around 600K. After the Zingano fight it blasted from 800k to over 1M. And in the lead up to UFC 190 her followers climbed to over 1.2M.

Now she has over 1.5M twitter followers, 4.4M instagram followers and 6.6M facebook likes.

4 spectacular fight results (66s, 16s, 14s and 34s) combined with relentless self-promotion (7 city book tour, 2 movie launches, Wrestlemania 31, SXSW, appearances on mainstream media outlets and talk shows including GMA, The View, the Tonight Show, Fallon, Conan) has taken Rousey deep into the main stream. And let's not forget her Sports Illustrated cover, Wall Street Journal video cafe, ESPN video profile, CNBC interviews, CNN appearances, Cosmo, Vogue, Time Magazine, etc, etc, etc.

Rousey has literally been EVERYWHERE when it comes to promoting herself and her fights.

People think it's all the UFC hype machine when a more accurate assessment is that it's the Rousey and Co. promotion machine. They have her doing appearances and interviews for media outlets that wouldn't give Conor, Anderson or even Brock the time of day.

You've nailed it.

Ronda is doing amazing stuff and she benefits from the novelty of a woman being the most dominant fighter in what many would consider a man's sport.

The media is eating that shit up.

I'll own the Conor nuthugger label, but there's no excuses being made there. He's hasn't had as long to build his fame.

Ronda is doing better at this point, but this is the 1st timer her PPV numbers have done this well. She has literally exploded in the last several months. Relentless self promotion, the book, movie appearances, ESPY awards, etc.

Ronda has earned her spot. She's putting in massive work outside the fight game to make herself relevant. Great for her.

Conor, on the other hand, is doing better than EVERYONE not named Ronda Rousey at this point. If you feel like you need to shit on that then you are clearly searching for reasons to hate on Conor for no reason.

Rousey Bless.

1. It was tweeted directly by Dana - https://twitter.com/danawhite
2. It wasn't a retweet.
3. It was very specific in the notations. #1 PPV of 2015, #1 Nielsen Twitter TV ratings, etc.

So, unless you're saying Dana took a piece of fan art, took the time to repost it under his name, and didn't give it any attribution or clarification, then yes, it looks to be authentic.

I also said specifically in the OP that it "appears" that Dana has confirmed this. I also noted that both Jeremy Botter and David Meltzer had independently reported that UFC 190 beat UFC 189 using independent and different sources. IE, that this wasn't just coming out of left field from just Dana, or just Meltzer, or just Jeremy Botter.

And given the push that the UFC has given Conor, then it would make perfect sense for him to NOT post it if it was incorrect, or to correct it if it was incorrect.

Look at the picture. It has been screen capped from somewhere.

Ronda has done very well for herself and she's a mainstream star but I still think Conor is a bigger MMA star.

It seems like speaking bout Ronda has become like speaking about feminism. Unless you celebrate everything they do or say one negative thing about them you instantly have an army of white knights calling you sexist, a hater etc.

A lot of people on Sherdog are surprisingly out of touch, even with MMA news.

You're entitled to your opinion.

I'll take the combination of Dana + Botter + Meltzer + social media engagement + Fox ratings + google searches + twitter + instagram + Facebook... all of which point to UFC 190 beating UFC 189 in terms of PPV buys, and Rousey running Conor out of the building when it comes to levels of fame and popularity.

I'll take that over "the pic looked fuzzy" any day of the week.

Don't kid yourself. Brock is still very much in the public consciousness. I do agree what you said about Ronda, all but the Brock part. That man is legit.

Alot of butthurt Mcgregor fans itt.

Not surprising. Ronda is far more popular than McGregor. The fight with Aldo could be interesting though.

Mystic Mac can't predict getting beaten by a 135 lbs C-level can crusher. Lorenzo Rousey will now put Conor Fertitta as Co-main to a Rousey fight.

It's from their advertising company, and I believe Dana leaked that pic

Don't get me wrong, Brock is really famous. However, in 4 years Rousey has not only surpassed Brock's social media presence on Twitter and Facebook, but she's getting profiled and interviews in ways that Brock has never managed to achieve.

Wall Street Journal cafe? Live interviews on CNBC? Vogue, Time and Cosmo?

That doesn't mean that Brock doesn't have a big name or international recognition, it's just that WWE stars like Brock are always going to be hamstrung to some extent because it's Wrestling Entertainment.

Outside of Hulk Hogan and The Rock, the list of professional wrestlers that have managed to truly cross over into cross gender, cross generational appeal, is really, really short.

That doesn't mean that Rousey has more name recognition in terms of sheer numbers of people (it's impossible to know for sure right now given the lack of marketing survey data), however Rousey's demographic diversity is definitely wider than Brock's and thus gives her access to more media segments.
