Exactly. Rebound fights should be more common than they are in UFC - it lets prospects/contenders regroup and refocus and extends their careers. Sadly, UFC matchmaking is stuck on "iron sharpens iron" mode, which means fighters coming off tough losses often get another tough match-up as a comeback (extreme example is Akiyama).

Part of UFC's motivation is also to squeeze any juice they can put of any recognizable fighter, which is why they'll probably keep giving Tony Ferguson top guys instead of a reasonable (but lower profile) match-up.

What it's ok for someone like Machkahchev to fight Moises but it's not ok for Hooker to look down the rankings??

There's nothing wrong with it but the problem is it shows Hooker's hypocrisy. When Islam was ranked below him, he pretended he didn't know who he was. Now that he's fighting an unranked guy who's a much more favorable matchup for him, it's pretty obvious he ducked Islam.
Especially because Nasrat is a bigger step down for him than Islam was. Islam and Moises were closer in rank than Hooker and Nasrat.

he has some pretty unique challenges RE: covid lockdowns impacting training in his country, multi month quarantine per fight and having to match his schedule up with other CKB fighters to actually have a corner. He should have fought higher but I am guessing he gave them a date and took whoever he could get that matched up well.

Those CKB guys are stilling running with prime pandemic conditions for their training camps. the fact that Riddell,Izzy and all that are winning is testament to their skills.

It's OK for anyone to fight down the rankings. You do realize every fight has one guy fighting below and one above right lol unless both fighters have a tied ranking.

With Hooker it's ironic because he's always been cocky and insulting over social media to lower ranked fighters who called him out, until now that he had no choice but to face one.
