I've just been out of town for the weekend and I'm catching up with MMA media.

I see Henderson's interview with Helwani, and a mere few seconds in Helwani asks a great question.

He asks Dan if he will be getting paid any show money for this fight, due to the ridiculously late pull-out from Lyoto. Dan then answers to let him know that he received no show money, or Reebok money.

I'm simple shocked, that a 45 year old man, who happens to be a legend of the sport is not getting paid for something like this.

He mentions Dana offered him "some" money for camp expenses etc. - Like what is this becoming? Some back-room payments to keep him "above water", just pay the man the damn money and fine Lyoto.

Why is the offender's mistakes, costing the opponent, cash?

He is 45, he should already be retired. Being honest, the fact he's still fighting at this stage makes me think he may still "need" the money, which makes this more troubling.

Pay the damn legend some bleeding money!

I agree but Dan being "a legend" has nothing to do with it.

I wonder if Dan sent Charlie Brenneman a check for his late pull out of 151.

i wonder whats the company policy on this because sometimes you read that they payed show money, other times they didnt. Im guessing its like all things UFC, as Dana pleases. Kiss the ring(ass) and youll get the scraps.
Maybe.

Dan wasn't at fault.

UFC should ensure than a card can sell without one drop-out.

Pathetic on their part, serves them right for trying to give us "weak as water" cards.

Exactly my thoughts.

I saw that too. He did say that he was offered some money but that it wasn't enough to cover all of his expenses.

It sucks for sure, but it's a tricky situation. A lot of fighters pull out on late notice. It would be a pretty huge chunk of money to cover everyone's training camp and what not. It would be cool to see, but I'm not sure it's entirely plausible.

Didn't Hendo know he wasn't going to fight and held off bringing that info to light for a little bit?

I can't remember if that was the case.

Dan knew he was injured 3-4 weeks before he pulled out, apparently...... if he revealed the injury, the UFC would have had more time for a contingency plan.

Why can't his management team get something in the contract that if his opponent pulls out the UFC will either get a replacement or pay X amount? I don't get why people expect the UFC to pay something if they are not contractually obligated to.

This is so ridiculous, why pay him show money and sponsorship money when they can just schedule him for a fight just over 1 month later? Just because he's 45 and a legend of the sport?

Sucks for Hendo. Very disappointed in Machida. Hopefully Hendo makes bank in the Lombard fight. He should retire after that, win or lose.

UFC on FOX 16 was slated to be one of the best FOX cards they've done, it isn't their fault the fighters can't look after themselves.
