There is nothing saying that an older fighter can’t beat a younger fighter. If that were the case, I’d be very rich from betting. The point is that Hendo had a much better chance of beating Fedor at that time, due to Fedor‘s decline.

Something I don’t see talked about a lot in regards to this fight, is the Bigfoot fight which preceded it. Fedor took a massive amount of damage in that fight. These days, a fighter who took that much damage in a fight probably wouldn’t be back in the cage that year. We had Sherdoggers concerned that Kattar is returning too soon, and he’s been out a year. Fedor was back in the cage a mere 5 months after the Bigfoot fight, and surprise, surprise—his chin didn’t hold up. Fedor actually fought 2 more times after that, which is insane. He fought 4 times in 2011.
