Unless your vale tudo...We all need help in this matter. I realized how much I suck today, one of my annoying buddies threw me on the floor I got the half guard, he started to get up while I was still on the floor I double legged him, he threw me over because of his strength. I got the full guard, now this moron starts to use the pressure points of hell under the ear, then starts to choke me with his bare hands then with his elbow, Not to mention he ruined my metallica shirt, and bruised the fuck out of my shoulders. I don't know what came over me, I forgot everything I knew which isnt too much since I'm a n00b, but I forgot to sweep, for to kimura, forgot the triangle, mean while he is pummling the crap out of me, instead of thinking fast, I just sit in my guard, like a moron, man I need to fuse some strikcing in my rolling.

guillitone him or kimura or sweep, basic subs will work on people who dont know jack

Why would you pull guard in a street situation against someone who doesn't have any skills or if it's not a last resort?

Anyway, the beauty of the guard is the space you can create between you and your opponent with a simple extention of your hips and legs.

no biggie. just train a little vale tudo from time to time where u train. get comfortable getting slapped around a bit and next time your instincts will be sharper

Eh, doesn't sound like to much of a buddy to me.

Essentially what happen here is, you freaked, aka panic'd....causing you not to think clearly, in which is why you didn't think about doing the most basic movements in BJJ.

As for adding striking....punching isn't gonna help when you're sitting back in your guard....you'll probably just piss the person off and then they'll start their version of G&P on you. So until you can get confidence, harness your emotions and remember to pull of the basics in a real physical confrontation....striking will be worthless. I mean hell, if you can at least remember to sweep, get to mount....doesn't take a pro boxer to know how to ball up a fist and throw that motherfucker down at your victims head/face.

You should only go to guard from a worse position. Once you get there you'd better start doing something.

Before you roll, repeat to yourself ten times, "I am NOT a guard-pulling ho." That should help.

yo man where do you train? or are you still looking.

You pulled guard on an the street? Did it hurt your back at all?
BTW, Id be pissed if my buddy f'd up my metallica shirt!

Him choking you or pushing his fingers behind your ear was a perfect opportunity for an armbar on either arm. So what did you do? Just lay there and try to think of something while he kept pummeling the crap outta you? It's always smart to keep moving in that situation, while also remembering not to go strength for strength. It would have probably come to you naturally had you just moved more. Seems like a nice friend. Did he just attack you for no reason or were you play fighting?

Shit, shoulda just exploded and created as much space between you guys as possible and then tried your escape.

More training with simulated strikes should solve your problem.

I wouldn't pull guard on the street though, unless I had an incredible guard, or I had them locked in a standing guillotine and wanted to make sure I finished it.

Dude just sounds like you need more mat time, the longer you train the less you need to think about what to do next.

Never, ever pull guard unless you are being taken down, on the street or in the dojo. It's weak and you're asking to get slammed.

I train 4 times a week by Gene Dunn.

I could have pwned him, I dunno what fell over me, My mind was elsewhere.

Don't ever pull guard in the street man. That's one of the first thing I learned in BJJ. But if you end up on your back ny accident in the street and its a one on one fight , no problem just us your bjj and finish him from the bottom. You just gotta train more man to feel more comfortable on the ground.

I dont know about pulling guard on the street but the mount works GREAT on the street!!!
