watching old interviews and in this Condit one he says Maia hurt him with a ground strike and that completely baffled me and did not expect to see Maia have that power damn imagine Maia and his DEADLY ASS subs combined with deadly ground and pound shiiiit one scary man people.

Its pretty crazy how he made a guy like condit look like an amateur. Maia has steamrolled through several straight fighters and his incorporation of wrestling has made his engages and take downs so much better, something that was lacking at mw.

As in awe of him as I am, and as much as I wanna credit demian with god tier jits, Condit looked checked out. Its not an excuse, all props to DemiGod

There's something beautiful about trouncing world class killers so effortlessly with such class. Maia is a scary guy in the most unconventional sense which makes it even easier to be a fan
 
no, it doesn't. his GnP is fine, but it's secondary to his control, which is off the charts.

i mean shit, he has had dozens of guys trapped on the ground over the last decade, and he subbed some but most he controlled to a UD. hurting Condit with a surprise punch is great. but it doesn't rewrite anything.

I remember this. It has more to due with Condits chin being gone after the Hobbie fight than Demian having some power now, his GNP is underrated tho its really helped him transition his gurappling game

Lets not forget Carlos has eaten left hooks from Hardy thats KOd dudes, overhand rights from Ellenberger that has slept guys, overhand rights from Woodley that has slept guys, left hands from Hendricks that rocks and sends guys flying, the assault he took from Lawler in the 5th etc. His chin is as tested as any and i dont think he can take the punishment he used to. His superhuman durability isnt there anymore

I could be wrong but I swear that Maia is 37 and let's be honest, he isn't guaranteed a title shot by any means. Especially with Conor/GSP around. Also he doesn't have a good chance at beating Woodley.

no. what i'm saying is, he punched Brown and Nelson about 500 times combined, so in 7 rounds of action sneaking one baffling shot on Condit does not mean he has underrated power.

he certainly has power. and angles. and whereas he was always a great grappler, in the last 8 or so years he has continually gotten better and better at causing damage to opponents after getting them and keeping them down. it's been a fun transition to watch.

Exactly this, plus being hit in the head whilst it's against the canvas shakes the brain even more so.
