“It was one of these things where I was confused because all I kept hearing about was that I was taunting him and showboating. That’s not my character, that’s not my style....

“What I think it is, it was sort of my style, it was a little bit different. I was going out there to get the first round knockout. And I told people beforehand, C.M. Punk, he’s a tough cat. I landed some solid shots, I rocked him. I landed some solid elbows and I hurt him but he never went to the ground...

“For me, I am not going to run in and try to get a finish on someone, get caught with something silly and then I’m a meme forever in MMA. I played the smart role and I kept my distance. After the first round, he didn’t go down so I was like, well, I didn’t get the first-round knockout.

“Plan B was just to beat him up. And I told everybody before hand that alI wanted to do was to beat him up nice enough where he doesn’t want to do this anymore. I never wanted to hurt the guy.

“What I learned is that Dana White and MMA fans, you guys are savages, man. It’s like, they wanted me to give this dude some sever[e] CTE. And I was like, this guy has a family to feed, he has someone to go home to...

"And I would feel bad, I sent him to the emergency room with just the cuts and bruises to his face. And they wanted me to give this dude severe brain damage. I’m not about that life. I guess fighting really isn’t for me, I don’t have that savageness like I used to when I was younger.”

He could have easily finished Punk if he wanted to imo. He was clowning in there.

Dana is going to give him someone way above his pay grade next who will wreck him.

This guy shouldn't be fighting it he's worried about these things

The sooner we move on from this the better.

My understanding is that after the first round, during which time CM Punk showed more toughness than Mike Jackson figured he would, and wouldn't go down, Jackson decided to give CM Punk a controlled minimal beating, but not a severe one. Just enough to win the rounds, but not enough to cause brain damage. This explains his pitty-patting, which Dana and MMA fans saw as showboating or bad fighting.

I like the guy.

Punk ending his own career by looking like he trained 5 days these past 2 years... neither belong in the UFC.

But thank you for exposing the UFC's BS..

If the question is some variation of, “who do you believe?” And one of the choices is Dana, I am always choosing the other option.

Should be pretty obvious...
Mike Jackson denies showboating against CM Punk, wants to explain himself to Dana White
White ranted to reporters after the pay-per-view event while saying Jackson was “acting like a goofball” during the fight.

“You get this opportunity to fight CM Punk, and you’re doing, like, bolo punches to the body on top,” the UFC exec said. “Never looked like he was trying to finish the fight ever. Looked like he could have finished the fight a few times. Never tried.

“I don’t know what that guy did for a living before we gave him the shot, but whatever it was, he needs to go back and do that again. He’s 0-2 as far as I’m concerned.”
Jackson believes White may have had a financial incentive to back Punk. With a win, he said, Punk could have returned to the octagon to make the promotion more money.

“I went out there and cooked his man,” Jackson said. “I don’t know if they had investment in him to win the fight, but look, he’s a cash cow. If he would have won, they would have given him another fight, and he would have made them a lot of money. And I ended that train. But I told people what I was going to do.”

Jackson, though, still believes his work was misinterpreted by White. He also believes he had no reason to dole out excess punishment to Punk despite an obvious superiority in the fight. When Punk survived his punches, he resolved to outclass the former WWE champion every minute they were in the octagon.

“I wasn’t showboating,” Jackson said. “I didn’t know how many more fights I was going to have in the UFC, so I wanted to go out there and cook him – and that’s what I did. I got all 15 minutes, and good for him.

“I hope this is going to be his last fight, so I wanted to go out there and maximize his experience, as well, and give him the most time. I gave him the most time, as well.

“People are savages, man. They want me to go out there and give this dude brain damage. I could have done a lot of damage to him, and I didn’t want to do that. I hit him, and he didn’t go out, and I was like, ‘All rright, he’s a tough cat.’ So let me not hit him with those same kind of shots anymore. I carried him for three rounds, and I cooked him. You saw his face. It looked chopped beef in there.”
See ya around, Mike Jackson.

Just not in the UFC.

Mike better watch out for that Daniel Bryan fade fam

He didn't give a fuck about Punk's health, he was just showboating.

lol I have the fucking fight downloaded in my computer, bro
you were showboating like a motherfucker

this guy is a piece of shit and it shows

He rightfully made it look like the complete joke that it was. Dana should be ashamed.

If you are in there worrying about not hurting your opponent, you're probably in the wrong profession.
