Both Daniel Cormier and Georges St Pierre are two-division champions who have accomplished a lot in MMA. They are near the end of their careers, and both deserve to pick their last few opponents.

For D.C., that's Shogun and Lesnar.
For GSP, that's Khabib and McGregor.

Despite distaste from certain ignorant fans, DC and GSP stand in an elite tier of their own and earned the right to choose the last few fights of their careers. Fighters complaining need to step aside and accomplish what GSP and D.C. have in the sport, then they can have their shot.

This is the reality, we are reaching the end of an era where the trailblazers and elite fighters are reaching the end of their careers, whereas the new generation of fighters are up and coming. Recognize.

For sure.

DC is on the edge of retirement, and just became one of a very select few to be a 2 division champ.

He gets to call the shots and make big money before sailing off into the sunset.

I agree, They're both at the end of there careers and deserve this.

Lesnar brings in fans and money but I don't feel right saying he deserves a title shot, lets just say an unneccasary bump ahead in the rankings.

Jones will never fight clean, he deserves to fight Horse meat Ubereem.

Yet people got mad when Bisping did it.

Gsp is a bitch yeah he is one of the most skilled and complete fighters of all time but he didn't defend mw title vs real fighters like romero and whitakker, and invented that he was sick and stupids stuffs

Bisping doesn't have the accomplishments and status of DC and GSP.

Don't blame him for cherry picking tho, its the UFC's responsibility to make him fight.

Absolutely agree with you, they can do what they please and don't owe anyone a damn thing.

I'd still like to see DC take another pop at Jon Jones though

How is D.C. any different going off your logic?

Dc should not be held in the same category as guys like gsp. Gsp is the greatest ww ever and top two goat candidate. Dc has never even been the goat of either division he’s fought in. Not saying he’s not great but he doesn’t have anything near the accomplishments as some other guys.

DC deserves it, but not GSP. GSP did not deserve to fight Bisping no matter if Bisping wanted it or not.

DC earned his right by completely destroying everyone in his division bar Jon Jones and being the CURRENT LHW champion and accepting to fight the greatest UFC HW ever.

GSP retired for 5 years and comes back straight into a title fight to the weight class above the one he used to compete at against the weakest MW champion ever? fuckin ridiculous.

then there's the whole, "I knew i said i'd defend my MW title but i have hemorrhoids now soooo.."

I think you all misunderstand the term "rights"

Contracts provide the structure for "rights"

Meaning a fighter can refuse to fight a selected opponent and then deal with whatever contractual consequences may be in force.

I've never heard of a fighter contract that included a provision to pick opponents.

Cormier, GSP and Conor may have negotiating power by exercising their "right" to refuse a matchup, but I don't think that extends to the point where they can choose an opponent.

#1 contenders, young or old, with long winning streaks have a legitimate expectation to have a title shot... But not a right.

No way. GSP defeated everyone he's ever fought. D.C. has not. GSP cleaned out the WW division twice. How could a "weak" Bisping beat Dan Henderson, Anderson Silva, and KO Luke Rockhold? GSP has the medical records to prove the colitis. I agree with the previous person who said GSP is a higher tier than D.C. I'm just using DC to help prove my point.

For DC is not only his accomplishments, its the lack of fighters with legit claims to a title shot. Gus just hasn't fought enough and is still living off that Jones fight. Curtis Blaydes is a good fighter and has a solid streak going. Hunt and Overeem are good wins, but don't think that is enough to say he is the number 1 contender.

I also give DC some leeway since he is looking at max 2 fights before he retires. If Gus wants that fight, he better turn the heat up by dominating Volkan.

That's essentially what it translates to, negotiating power. Of course there are other factors such as fighter availability, timing, fan interest/buzz -> revenue, and both fighters willing to accept the fight.

DC has only lost to one guy period.

i didn't say Bisping was weak, i said he was one of the weakest MW champions ever, come on, i wanted Bisping to KO Rockhold and it was glorious, but don't pretend like Bisping wasn't a journeyman who caught a break there.

GSP might be a higher tier in the overall scheme of both their careers, but he took 5 YEARS OFF. DC DID NOT.

no one deserves a title shot for doing absolutely nothing for 5 years, are you nuts?
