Cyborg has since been campaigning for a fight at UFC 226, which her team says she was promised following her last minute arrival for UFC 222. Nunes however is currently scheduled for UFC 223 and is saying she will not be available for the July 7th date, and the only other suitable opponent Megan Anderson has just been booked against Holly Holm, which in all likely hood means Cyborg will not be a part of UFC 226.

Speaking with Amy Kaplan of Fansided.com Cyborg went on to say, “I’m not surprised, I said this was going to happen months ago. It’s how the UFC works. They are going to take the number 1 contender and have them fight someone I already beat.”

Cyborg went on to say, “The UFC knows Holly needs a couple of wins before we can have a rematch, right now her record is terrible. She is 1-4 and in the negative over her past 5 fights.” Beside a win in Singapore that was featured on Fight Pass, Holly Holm has struggled since her victory over Ronda Rousey two years ago.

When asked if a win over Anderson would get Holm a rematch, Cyborg went on to say, “I think Holly Holm will have to win a rematch with GDR or put together a couple more wins before that rematch is something I am interested in. I have have already agreed to fight Amanda Nunes with my management so now it is up to them to establish when that bout can take place."

I'm not very interested in a cyborg/holm rematch at all. I do like the holm/anderson booking though. build anderson's name before booking her as a credible threat to cyborg. and if she can't take out holm then most likely she doesn't have a chance against cyborg

I think that's fair but one aspect is Holm is shifty and slick with her footwork, timing and angles. Hard to hit, stick and move. Cyborg is by no means a primitive striker but she is used to having a big power advantage and likes to step up and swing. Megan is a very big, powerful girl and if she connects flush on Cyborg that will probably be the hardest she has ever been hit, with the exception of Barrs. We know Cyborg is gritty and has a strong chin but Megan's size and power could mix things up a bit. Cyborg will be needing to move through that to get in range and exchanging may not be as profitable as usual.

I don't understand how Holly Holm should even be matched against someone that should be the number 1 contender for the womens featherweight title .... this match doesn't make any sense in terms of title contention as Holms lost not that long ago all be it a competitive fight against Cyborg , but not to warrant a potential title contention that this match somewhat implies.

Actually, going by history, the number contender is being decided at Invicta next month:

Re: "and if she can't take out holm then most likely she doesn't have a chance against cyborg".

I don't think Holly is really a good 'gate keeper' or litmus test, as her style is so funky and can match up very well with elite, elite fighters (Ronda) and then can match up poorly with others (losing rounds to Betche).

I thought it was a weird booking. I guess it will show us is the Anderson fight was worth taking place but at this point you need fighters to go on some streak then feed them to Cyborg. The division can't afford to kill off any fights that could be semi-interesting

Believe me, we don't want that fight either... once was enough

Holm gets too much credit, that fight was neither competitive nor interesting. Nobody wants that rematch, why are they risking to lose Anderson, who is the only semi-worthy contender available?

Jesus, please put that photo with the skateboard in a spoiler. <6><{clintugh}>

Those 2 48-47's were a joke, Holly got dominated and this rematch makes zero sense. Cyborg outlanded her 131-48 and if we go by significant strikes per rd.. Rd 1 15-6 for Cyborg, rd 2 21-4 for Cyborg, rd 3 22-6 for Cyborg, rd 4 20-9 for Cyborg, rd 5 39-20 for Cyborg. If you add in the strikes that weren't deemed significant strikes then those numbers would be even more lopsided. For all the Hugging Holly did she got Zero takedowns and only landed 1 strike in the clinch.

Seems like the UFC isn't interested in seeing Cyborg fight a real FW

I kind of disagree.
Megan is the only "viable" opponent for Cyborg.
And Holm has a complete different style.
So beating holm does not mean you can beat Cyborg. The same way, even if Megan could beat cyborg, it doesn't mean she could beat Holm.

Style makes fights, and the only thing this fight causes is taking out a top contender that could have fought Cyborg.
