what do you guys do?

so Im 17, 5'8 and i weigh around 150.
Last time i got a body fat test was a couple months ago before wrestling season and i was 15 percent. im pretty sure i lost some during the season :p
i was just wondering if theres anything to do to cut body fat.
i've tried dieting and it doesnt seem to work.
help?

What kind of dieting and how long/how well did you stick to it?

dieting does work, you just cant cheat, because their is no possible way that if your on a low cal/fat diet for 2-3 weeks you wont lose any fat
i suggest running, forget about weights
run run run run run

if you add muscle, then your body fat percentage will obviously decrease.

Dieting does work.

Drink plenty of water all the time - and especially after eating. Eat smaller meals and more of them. Make sure those meals have less carbohydrates in them. Eat a good amount of protein, and at least one serious portion of fiber every day.

Lay off food that has refined sugars in it. If you need sugar, eat fruits instead.

I know a lot of people might suggest cardio, but to be honest I would advise against it from personal experience.

You might burn, say, 600 calories running for an hour.

But I guarantee, the amount of food you'll eat for the rest of the day as a result of increased hunger will counteract all positive effects of the run.

How the hell is the occasional rare cheat once in a while (like once a week maybe) going to suddenly offset 2-3 weeks of clean eating and dieting?

This thread is polluted with WRONG (not debatable, just wrong) information.

You weight 150 lbs., lifting weights would not do you harm, and would in fact be good for you. Cardio is also useful...both HIIT and LSD. But your diet is key to achieve your goals.

If you were on a "diet" and it wasn't working to achieve your goals, it was the wrong diet. What does your diet look like?

This is retarded advice. Diet is always king when it comes to weight and body fat loss, but cardio is an excellent tool in achieving your goals. Cardio won't cause you to eat more, lack of discipline causes you to eat more.

Cardio is overrated.

Heavy lifting has actually has a greater impact on heart rate levels (at least for me) and eats up more calories in the long run. Not saying cardio should be avoided but I think you would benefit more from a good lifting routine.

I took up running, 4 mile runs 3-4 times a week, light weightlifting along with a steady diet. I dropped from 235 to 190 pretty quickly. Fastest I've ever gone through losing fat/weight.

do not stop lifting. even if your lifts suffer during the cut, lifting will maintain as much strength and muscle as possible, making what you lose more fat and less muscle than if you did only cardio.

also, you are 150 fucking pounds. why do you want to lose anymore weight?

Sample routine:
30 min cardio first thing in morning(before breakfast even)
-steady state jogging should do
-remember to stretch after

30-45 min of resistance training 3-5 times a week
-revolve around powerlifts(+push press), 4x5
-6-8 sets of 10 of accessory work
-majority of work should be done with free weights
-1 or 2 times a wk throw in 1o min of hiit cardio after weights for metabolic boost
-remember to stretch after

diet
-high protein, moderate carbs, low to moderate fat
-whole grains, fruits and veggies, lean meats, and some dairy
-eat 5-7 small meals a day

If you dont lose any bodyfat on a routine like that, ur either already in very good shape, or have terrible genetics for physical conditioning. Also, dunno what ur losing weight for(ie competition, or general health, whatever), these are just general guidelines for someone just wanting to lose bodyfat and be healthy.

Fixing my diet is the only thing that has worked for me. Even adding cardio or training harder can be offset by consuming more calories. If I just eat clean, drink a lot of water, mix in some cardio and lift as usual, I find myself slimming down. Diet is the key, though.
