Cutelaba Stoppage

Just rewatched Ankalaev vs Cutelaba II. Looks like the ref should have stopped it a bit earlier.

They can never seem to get his stoppages right.

Was the ref slow to act this time because of the whole playing-possum argument the first time they fought?

Sort of knew this was going to happen given the first fight. If you protest a stoppage enough to garner a rematch you can expect the ref to give you enough rope to hang yourself come crunch time.

Honestly as hard as it is to hear. Better early stoppage than late. You could sustain long term injuries/CTE from late stoppages.

IMO they should video review every stoppage when a fighter complains to take pressure off the refs, restart fight in same position if the video review shows stoppage wasn't correct. I doubt very many fights would be restarted but I think the late stoppages would be less as the ref isn't under so much pressure "to give him a chance".
