3 of his 5 losses happened within a minute... Shannon Gugerty: Lost by RNC in 15 seconds, how the hell did that happened? Jens Pulver: Lost by Guillotine in 35 seconds. Jose Aldo: Lost by amazing TKO in 8 seconds. Is this some kind of blueprint?, if there is an explanation to this it might be he is a slow starter like if he takes some time to get comfortable in the cage. Should his next opponents put the pressure on him within the belt rings?. Thoughts?
The Gugerty fight was his pro debut, so that explains that. I think its just coincidences that he has 3 early stoppage losses, he also has a UD loss and a 2nd round sub loss. Also, I felt like he lost the fight with Semezier. Cub was a mid tier fighter in the WEC but I think he has gotten much better since joining the UFC.
I think they are coincidences also. I think Swanson looks very sharp right now and may get another shot at the title, but it will be the same outcome as their first encounter.
He was always dealing with injuries, that's why I think he wasn't fighting up to his potential. He has also improved skill wise as well. Still confused about how you get submitted with a RNC in 15 seconds.
I think there are some fighters who need to get cracked a few times before they wake up and start fighting. Cub Swanson might be one of those guys, though like a previous poster said I think he has recently made the jump from mid-tier to possible contender. If this was a problem for him, I'd like to think experience has allowed him to overcome it.
That pretty much sums it up along with potential injuries during that time. Other than that 2-3 streak, Cub has constantly been looking like he's been improving
I'm simply hypothesising here, but he could've gotten rocked early, had his back taken and gotten RNC'd while still being cobwebbed.
It's old stuff. If you watch the Pulver and Aldo fights, you'll see that Swanson was inexperienced and unwisely shot in for TD's without any setup at all. He got finished immediately in both cases. He hasn't done that for a while now; he always feels out the standup now (and his standup is much improved too). There is no blueprint based on this. Aldo can probably still work Swanson over in the standup, but I don't buy that Swanson gives a fight away in the first 30 seconds like that as a habit any more.
Man i love Cub Swanson's Style though , Exciting as hell! Cannot wait for that matchup with Swanson an Poirier !! Thats gonna be FIREWORKS Baby!! that just made my day seeing that match-up on the headline of the page!! -BR420
