Cruz completely underestimated Cody.

    For one Cody just fought probably the best fight of his life just now. Really surprised me how slick and elusive he was. He mixed up his strikes nicely and took dom down even.

    I don't think Cruz was ready for the reality of having to be the one pressing the action and engaging with Cody. Usually dom is dancing around avoiding damage and slipping in. This fight he was pressing forward and ate big shots because of it. Cody had Dom whiffing a lot of shots with beautiful foot work.

    Dom had no idea what hit him

    Both guys are awesome, but Cody brings a lot of power with his speed and that's a dangerous combination.

    On the mend but skipping physical therapy
    His team had a wealth of fighting experience to draw from for sure.
    But it sure took a he'll of a long time for TAM to get another win over him.
    Not a big fan of either guy but I think that this loss will absolutely push Cruz to a new level.

    Can't blame him. I think most people did. I only gave Cody a puncher's chance coming in and was completely surprised.

    Not sure if he underestimated him I think Cody was just better.
    While Dom clearly lost. Under the unified rules he was still somehow close to winning. A bit more in the first from Dom and it could have been 2-2 going into the last round.
    Not a big fan of re-matched but I wouldn't mind seeing this one again.

    Firstly, great fight by Garbrandt.

    Secondly, what kind of a plan was that by cruz? I could see from the get-go that Cruz was a little too worried about his power, he was lunging from far with with slap punches. You can't fight properly when you are worried about getting hit. Easily Cruz's worst performance, but still a great job by Cody. Can't take anything away from him, he dominated Cruz, but I think Cruz had a poor strategy too.

    Cruz never fought an elite boxer who has been studying Cruz's fighting style for years. Not surprised but surprised at the same time.

    Too many injuries. Dom is an old 31. He looked off but maybe that was Cody? Either way, his usual advantage of speed and making people miss while landing shots wasnt as effective. I had it as a Draw but I can see how others would have given Cody the win.

    I doubt it. I think Cruz has a lot of mileage despite being 31 with 24 fights. Multiple knee surgeries and down time.

    Dom was in amazing condition and did what he always does very well - there was a substantial athleticism gap between Dom and Cody. I don't think he can fix that problem.

    Speed, timing, reflexes, raw athleticism. That was the big difference. Thats how he got reversed in freakish fashion from a well timed, well placed take down. The athleticism gap.

    Dom is still going to beat most of the guys in the division, but I think his body only goes downhill from here. I don't know that he has more to learn or additional strategy and retooling to implement. He's got a great thing.

    Cody 25, fast, hard hitting, exciting, and only a robbery would have taken that fight from him.

    Common man. I was pulling for Cody but, this was a damn good fight. A very close one I might add too gven championip fights in the past. A rematch would sell but, right now, even Dillashaw and everyone else out there look like there in trouble with Cody. The kid is big, he can bang, he is getting better, and is highly agile.

    Dom should have turned his fight into a grind fest instead of letting cogar stand there and not throw a punch unless Dom did. Cody lured Dom into his game and got into Doms head. Cody acting like a prick and Diaz'n Cruz got into his head. Damn Ronda got smashed.

    Seen it 1st round to, forcing dom to press...i say it all the time, sherdog experts think cutting off the cage is the way you combat footwork/defensive counter fighters.

    Forcing them to come forward is the best way imo, shevchenko did it to holm, woodley to thompson as well off the top of my head

    I don't really think it was that close.

    You can't really point to success Dom had, other than activity, but he was routinely out classed throughout the entire fight, everywhere it went. Cody mocked him out in the open repeatedly and let him whiff air. When Cody hit him, he hurt him, and that was the story of the fight.

    Cody is special. He's probably a top 10% athlete in the UFC across all divisions. He's got the goods.

    I picked Dom to win by decision but what stood out for me tonight was the athleticism gap.
