So as many of you know, back in 2012 I documented the Eminem curse in all its glory, showing that UFC fighters that enter to Eminem songs win around 38% of their fights. A year or so later, I went after another curse, this time being the predictions of former UFC fighter Nam Phan. His success rate was also around 40%, so his pick that a fighter would win wasn't entirely a kiss of death for them like we had previously thought.

I am currently working on a definitive TUF guide, chronicling every season of TUF and every fighter that has come from that show. It's a great database and it will include the current TUF season with coach Connie and coach Faber.

Right now, however, the topic turns to entrance music. I am putting together every entrance song for every fighter for every UFC event. For the most part, my information is limited to PPVs because TV audiences aren't able to hear most entrance songs from live events due to commercials. Over the years, a few mma journalists have put together lists from the events, so I'm putting it all together. I am currently up to UFC 115 and am making my way towards the present.

A few questions:

Would this kind of thing interest you as a reader?

What kinds of things or patterns would you want me to look for? Bands, songs, fighter success, etc?

Do you know of any other resources that keep track of entrance music, besides the ones I am using now? Those are: fighterxfashion, mmajunkie's fight tracks, sherdog's The Walkman, mmafighting, the Las Vegas Sun, and mmaentrances.com.

TLDR: Making a database of all the entrance music of every UFC fighter that I can find. Interested?

One of the major difficulties I face is that I won't be able to investigate a lot of the events personally. For instance, the events on Fight Pass use generic rockmetal music in place of the original song, so the UFC doesn't have to pay royalties. It's tough to get around to actually hear the music, since I've only physically been to a handful of events.

I am interested. However, haven't some fighters mentioned that they don't get to pick their own music sometimes? I mean in more cases than the random guy who trolled Rory. I would want to know a little bit more about that if the information is available.

There will always be a market for information giving punters an advantage.

There are a bunch of fighters that are pretty consistent with their walkout songs though. Trawling through The Walkmen should work.

Also.

INTERESTED.

Here is a tiny taste of what I'm putting together, from the most recent event, Fight Night 78 Magny vs Gastelum

I can do a lot with it depending on what people are interested in.

And yes, Word, some fighters don't pick their own music at times. I can definitely look into what goes on in a fighter's mind regarding their music. It seems insignificant because they are about to get into a fight with someone else, but there's got to be some thought going into it. I know a few fighters, so I'll ask them about it.

Interdasting indeed. What are you going to do with the info ?

Here is a question from me.

Do fighters win more with male/female/no vocals on their entrance songs ?

I understand that it's a motherfucker to do that research... just an idea

As far as a database, Tapology keeps track of some walkout tracks. It's not really most of the contributors' major concern though so there's only some listed here and there. I'm not sure how much they will have for UFC events that aren't already covered elsewhere but it's there if you need it.

Example
http://www.tapology.com/fightcenter/fighters/yoshihiro-akiyama-sexyama

If you look directly under some of the bouts there is a blurb of info, walkout music is among that info.

Random statistics are always interesting in a strange way.

If you follow through with this, I bet a lot of people would check out your
website, should you choose to post the info.

That would be interesting. I could start with instrumental vs vocals and go from there. A lot of fighters enter to themes from movies, for instance Tim Boetsch for the longest time entered to the theme from Conan the Barbarian.

That's terrific, I didn't know Tapology recorded that. I'll definitely use it as a supplemental source for music if need be, thanks.

And yes, I don't know what exactly draws me to this idea, but it must be important enough for a fighter to pick a certain song, right?

Yes! I'm interested. I'd love to see the stats on "Sail" (lol), and obviously which songs are "best" and "worst".

Hey man more on a side note, can you also make like a list of your favourite walk out music? Like songs the really captured and added onto the moment, made the crowd go crazy. A list of the best in your opinion since you are looking over everything already.

Control Machete is fucking badass.

They have a song with Ely Guerra from the movie Amores Perros that is awesome. I've always imagined how cool would it be for someone to use it as an entrance theme to the octagon in a Mexican event.

Funny you think that, because I was actually just going over in my head the best one-two entrance song duos I can remember. The best one that sticks out in mind is the Diaz/Condit combo of Condit's Ghost of Tom Joad by Rage Against the Machine vs Diaz's Feiticeira by Deftones.

Definitely interested.

I remember reading about Keith Jardine wanting to use a Tom Waits song but Dana said no. I've always wondered which song he wanted to use.

Yeah Jardine is a very interesting dude. He's a big Tom Waits fan. I remember reading an article ages ago about people wanting him to come out to the Techno Viking song too but that never, as Anik always says, materialized.

I'd be interested in hip hop vs rock, vs country, vs instrumental stats.
