People have been working on the Crazy Horse monument in S. Dakota since 1948. So far they’ve only got the head completed. Anyone know what’s taking so damn long?!
If expenses are the issue, I’d be happy to donate to a gofundme for it. I’m sure it’d be a popular Gofundme.
Shit's expensive. I remember hearing how much mount Rushmore would cost today and it was some insane amount
Money. 'Crazy Horse' was Lakota. Why aren't the Lakota Indians raising the money? Who came up with the idea of building an Indian monument of that size? That is 'crazy'. It will never be completed. Where is the Geronimo monument?
Saw this over a decade ago. All they had at that point was a rough outline of the head. If I recall right some family is building the monument themselves and refusing offered help.
Its in the same'ish state of progress as when I visited it on a family vacation in the late 80s early 90s. As far as I know its completely funded by donations. I believe the original visionary passed away and its completion has been passed down to his children. Maybe they dont have the same drive? Unpopular opinion ahead. How many people have ever been to an Indian Reservation town? Youd think all the different tribes; at least in the area would come together for such a project. But it seems like the only thing they actually want to throw money at are Casinos. I just drove through a few Navajo towns in NW New Mexico and the casino was the only "nice" building. Everything else was somewhat dumpy.
Lots of Indian casinos here in Oklahoma. This was not the case 30 years ago. Very little of that money goes to help Indians. Casinos are usually run by a 'mafia' and they keep the money to themselves.
The Sioux Reservations around that area have extremely high rates of poverty and unemployment. For a lot of reservations in that area, the only job you can get is at a casino. Some of his ancestors have been vocal against how it's being done now. They're not happy with how it's being monetized.
