We all know the stand-up rule. If the fighter on top is stalling or both fighters are inactive, they are forced to fight on the feet. My proposal isn't to abolish the stand-up rule, but rather to implement a counter. If both guys refuse to engage on the feet, why not have the referee force them to grapple.
If both guys refuse to exchange strikes the ref should call time, pull out a coin with a red side and blue side (red corner, blue corner), and whoever wins gets to choose either top position or bottom position. This will serve as both a punishment for not engaging and an incentive to work on the feet.
I hate the stand-up rule and I don't see it going away. Dana is biased towards strikers and I kind of don't blame him. But one thing he can't deny is that there have been terrible fights where both guys refused to throw down and he needs a Plan B.
Let me know what you guys think. Is this a good idea? Is this the dumbest thread ever? Any input will be appreciated.
