Could we still find out who the Zodiac Killer was through DNA testing?

They recently caught the golden state killer by some new testing. Could they do the same to the Zodiac
 
If remember right the the feds zero'd down on his identity by sifting through family which shared his DNA.

Guessing the sheer brilliance of the zodiac, I'm guessing he was a lone wolf through life and had less family connections.

Probably a highly intellectual man. where the golden state killer/rapist was law enforcement who had knowledge which massively assisted him.

They were supposed to but it’s been 2 years and not a word since. Maybe they did find a matching suspect or it’s down to a few guys.

Yes. The case is actively being worked on. He's almost certainly dead at this point but there's several items they believe could contain his DNA. The hard work is connecting the DNA with someone. First, you have to hope that someone related to him has tested and is in a public database. Then you have to sort through 100s if not 1000s of cousins and try to link them to someone in the area at the time.

The last I had heard, a blood sample and stamps were submitted. The problem is, Zodiac was most likely smart enough to have someone else lick the stamps for him so it could ultimately match someone unrelated. They didn't have DNA testing back then though so perhaps no one was even thinking of that. Still, it could be a wild goose chase.

The Golden State Killer had way more evidence and descriptive reports to tie it down to someone in particular.

All different killers. With a reporter sending letters to the Newspapers pretending to be the killer.
Unrelated to who the killer was but one of the surviving victims had on 3 sweaters , a t-shirt, a long sleeved button shirt and 3 pair of pants on when he was shot. It was over 80 degrees on a 4th of July California day.
What the fuck was he doing?

I think it was the same killer because he matched the description of all the people that saw him. Plus, he phoned in details that only the killer would know. Then, the ciphers. There were definitely some hoaxed/copycat letters but those were all figured out pretty quickly.

As for the victim, he said he was extremely self-conscious about his body. He was super skinny and hated it so he wore extra clothing to appear bigger than he was.

I highly recommend everyone watch this documentary. It's extremely good and goes over the entire case and interviews the surviving victims and cops that were on the case.

So, I like the multiple killer idea.. I have thought so too. But some of the letters came with crime scene evidence.
Several suspects had connections to the area around the trendy satanic church.. i bet a couple wackos met there and cooked something up in a weird Dom/sub serial killer relationship.

One of the theories is that someone inside was writing the letters. The reason being that the "Zodiac" claimed he shot one of the kids in the knee only after a police report mistakenly said one of the victims was shot in the knee.
No one was shot in the knee and the real killer would've know that.

Zodiac also mailed in blood samples from clothing and so on for multiple victims over periods of time. That’d be hard to hoax.


Keep in mind, there were other killings attributed to Zodiac that ended up being ruled out. It’s not like the idea of separate killings wasn’t thought of and looked into. If hoaxing it, why rule some of the others out? It wouldn’t make sense. In fact, some of the ones ruled out remain unsolved if I’m not mistaken -but they don’t believe the Zodiac was involved.
