This rumour seems strong and there's no way these two guys ever fight each other. Maybe Rory is aware GSP is probably coming back in the next year and will temporarily leave for that Bellator money and belt while GSP returns for a year or two of fights before retiring for good. This would result in a top contender in Rory not having to fight GSP if he reclaims the belt.

IF GSP comes back (he won't), I don't see him fighting a whole lot more. Don't see Rory joining Bellator just to duck GSP for one or two fights. He ducked him perfectly fine when people were screaming for him to get a title shot a few years back.

No, there is no way in hell Dana will give GSP a title shot. he will just run off with the belt again which makes us feel like the next champ will be illegitimate

GSP vs Lawler would make the UFC more money than any match up other than a GSP super fight ( Conor, Anderson)

yes but that is only one day. after that the WW division will be dead and no more money will be made from it for a long time.

I doubt that. Interim titles happen all the time or they would just put the belt up for grabs like they did when GSP left the first time.

I don't see any feasible situation where this would be a factor. If Rory leaves it's likely for similar reasons to why Bendo left... more cash and/or different pool of opponents and path to a championship.

dog have you forgotten how upset Dana was when GSP retired after Hendricks? Dana literally said GSP will never fight for the title again. He literally fucked over the WW division.

Dana said something along the lines that you have to pass torch on to the younger fighters by fighting until you lose the belt.

That is why Dana tried so hard to convince everyone that Hendricks won that fight

Dana is a fake, promoter. He's a hard sell on whatever will make him the most money. GSP coming back for the title makes him and zuffa the most money.

he is also a business man though, that decision doesn't make any sense. however, if he is really looking to sell a part of the UFC, than this fight makes sense because it will boost his quarterly profits this year.

giving GSP a title shot you could sell 1.5 million ppv's but after he retires, WW will only sell like 100k ppv's for a while.

counterarguement: if Lawler wins, the WW division will explode after the fight so Dana will let the fight happen

You're talking out of both sides of your mouth son.

IMO Rory has been vocal about fighter rights and pay lately, so if he went to bellator I'd venture to say it's less about a possible GSP return and more of an FU to ufc brass

This is a thing? Rory possibly to Bellator?
