Could a grappler neutralize striking

Hi home skillets, I am not the biggest MMA fan, but I was wondering, remember how Mirko Crop Cop created an anti-grappling style of striking that focused on sprawls and avoidance of grappling, do you think that a grappler focus exclusively on countering striking, to the detriment of actually training to throw strikes, so as to neutralize a striker and bring the match to the ground?

Someone tried this before. In some sort of organized event. I think it was called UFC 1.

You are not going to like the answer. It depends.

The technique or skill set has to go along with the ability to execute.

The significance of the first couple UFC and Royce Gracie was that pure grappling, particularly one that involves you entirely taking the fight down onto the ground like BJJ, destroys pure striking.

Modern MMA pretty much demands that you know how to counter BJJ. Otherwise you'll just lose immediately.

It is far easier for a grappler to neutralize a striker than vice-versa.

I watched MMA when I was starting high school about 2001-2003, but not a lot since. I have not heard that term.

You've got one punch before I close the distance, clinch, throw you to the floor and choke you. If your punch connects I'm going to break your arms too, just on principle.

There was a family from Brazil that had some theories on the use of grappling to neutralise strikes, but their name escapes me. Perhaps someone on here might be able to help.

    Happy New Year.

Jorge Garcia, the grandfather of centripetal force. They are just lucky they put Jacobo into the fight, and not the true family champion Jago.

Jago was undefeated in over 4,000 fights.

I don't know everyone that Mirko faced. What was the best grappler he faced?

I don't agree go watch rory woodley, it's very hard to grapple against a controlled safety first striker.

You can but it's better to just punch your way into a takedown. Or mix both methods.
