FAUX News was the only news service saying it wasn't a big deal. The real news services around the world were reporting what doctors who were in contact with the doctors in China were worried about. Many medical professionals were warning that the World Health Organization wasn't taking it seriously enough soon enough. The experiences with previous viruses certainly lead to some of the public's skepticism.

Politicians were more concerned about the economic implications of taking measures to stop the spread. The delay in taking action caused a much larger economic impact. The initial denials that this would be a problem has caused many to continue to deny the problem which will make it last even longer.

yeah but this is mainly happening in NYC where the population density is huge, 100k people in NYC is nothing, what's that like less than a city block worth of people

I can't predict what idiots will do. This is a virus that people can carry and spread while not having any symptoms. People can have it for a while without showing symptoms while spreading it before they finally show symptoms. It's why it's so difficult to track. One person can infect hundreds or even thousands of people without even knowing they have it it.

I feel it's better to err on the side of caution than to depend on hope and luck.

I'll leave the predictions to the experts. I went back to the start of the thread to collect some opinions.

They had no choice. It only took a month of sweeping this under the rug for them to realize that they fucked up. I hate to be sensational but Trump is currently in the running for worst US President of all time.

I dunno, wouldn't be surprised if the tide of public opinion is shifting against globalism, free trade, open borders, etc

The fact that we're at the mercy of Chinese manufacturing for medical supplies/equipment right now is kinda disturbing
