Cormier's takedown in the fifth

Yup. Werdum is doomed.

Dang, I don't know why I'm laughing so hard at this, but it's pretty amazing. If you play dramatic music while watching, it's even funnier!

It was a great takedown.

It's the keeping him down part that didn't pan out.

Considering it was 5th round and Jones used Travis Browne Cagegrab, it was actually pretty damn good IMO.

Just shows that real 'riddle' is getting good hold on Jones legs.

He's just ridiculously good at positioning them out of danger.

Yeah tall guys really need to learn from Jones. He doesn't even need to sprawl, he just leans forward a bit, moves his feet back a step, and all of a sudden his legs are in a different time zone.

It's actually not that great of a takedown for MMA since you don't have control of the person. Hendo got up from a bunch of the slams as well.

Olympic wrestlers don't put much emphasis on control after the takedown, so they often don't have great control. They got good takedowns, but that means fuck all when your opponent can pop right back up.

DC & Yoel probably got less than a combined 10 minutes of top control time in their entire careers since being in a major league like strikeforce/UFC. And most of that is Yoel vs Tavares. If you remove Tavares it's probably less than 5 minutes of top control.

Cormier's also had an extensive collegiate career.

Not the best take down of the night at all. Lifting him up was very impressive, the actual slam was not due to how Jones was able to position the landing.

Jon can thank the cage and Cormier being tired as hell for the way he landed. If DC would have gotten that in the first it may have looked different.

DC's slam in the 5th > Jones' two takedowns in the 4th

DC's slam in the 5th > Jones' two takedowns in the 4th

He barely took him down wasn't able to keep him down and had 0 top control. DC was expected to be able to take JJ down. How is that >?

Jones the cheater grabbing fences and poking eye.

Why go for a TD when he's clearly losing? His pride got in the way. He should've tried to KHO. His pride may have cost him the belt.

His lack of skill cost him the fight more than his pride. He wasn't able to do much standing maybe he thought he could gnp Jon. Jones beat him in the clinch and in the wrestling department. He clearly out grinded/grappled an olympic wrestler and HW grand prix champ. DC landed a few shots from the clinch but had nothing for JJ.

it was also nice the was JBJ crawled back after he landed and managed to stand up

Cormier got too obsessed with getting a takedown in rounds 4 and 5. I think he knew he was losing and he wouldn't be able to win, so he was looking for a moral victory by that point.

Agreed. Cormier was so focused on getting that takedown that he essentially stopped fighting. In that final round, he should have been going for the knockdown but instead, how much time did he waste trying to get that takedown, expend that huge amount of energy and in the end it accomplished nothing because Jones got up immediately.

The eye gouge cost him the fight. But really, I guess its what that other guy said, Cormier just wanted a moral victory. Guess he feels he'll get a rematch later on.

You can't respect Jones. You have to brawl it out and he was doing good until midway through the 3rd after the eye poke.

I honestly still can't believe Jones tried to grab outside the cage. Not in a "he's cheating" way... but that his brain actually told him to do it. If Cormier had fallen backward instead of forward, Jones could have seriously f'ck up his shoulder.

uh maybe because if another man is lifting you 10 ft into the air your first response is going to find whatever way possible to steady yourself
