Cormier vs. Henderson - how does their wrestling match up ...

I think Hendo will be badly outclassed in this match. Cormier has been ragdolling some game HW's.
 
I don't think you're gonna see that much wrestling in this matchup. I think DC puts Hendo away by TKO.

I do believe that DC's wrestling is better than Hendo's but not to the point where it blows away Hendo's wrestling.

I do believe Hendo can stop some of DC's TDs, but will gas in the process.

I got DC via UD or TKO.

You could say the same thing about shogun/hendo--and look at how those turned out. In fact Cormier's chin isn't as proven as shogun's, so Dan has an even better chance of h-bombing him.

I like Rumble, but I think DC is much much better than Davis. DC v Rumble would not be an easy fight for Rumble.

Cmon, this fight is a total mismatch. Cormier dominates every aspect of the fight with Hendos only chance being pure luck. He also hasn't been a good MMA wrestler for the vast majority of his career, having been taken down by tons of fighters throughout his career with ease.
 
i see this alot like the Fedor fight , i just wonder if it ends the same.
 
Cormier is the better MMA wrestler and he is a bit more credentialled in amateur wrestling as well. Cormier was a much much better folkstyler than Hendo and probably a little bit better than Hendo in senior level wrestling, albeit in different styles. Hendo was a 2X Olympian but never medaled at the worlds/olympics. DC competed in 1 Olympics and qualified for another that his weight cut/kidneys never allowed him to compete in. DC scored a bronze at the worlds which is very impressive. Hendo medaled at some world cups and pan am games but I dont know if he won any of them. He did beat the Cuban world champ though which is big. Both Hendo and DC were extremely successfull domestically in their respective form of wrestling with each winning numerous national titles and trials.

Cmon its a bit unfair to call Hendos landing of a big punch luck. Hes landed a shitload of em.
 
Do you guys think cutting like 15 lbs of fat is gonna do anything to Cormier but make him faster/stronger? This is going to be a massacre...Hendo isn't gonna last 1 round. If he does, its because Cormier is playing it safe. This guy put away Bigfoot Silva with 1 punch...
 
Hendo hasn't really shown good wrestling since the Rampage fight and Rampage still won that. Hendo got out-wrestled by Shields. Yeah, his back was supposedly hurt but still. Cormier is probably one of if not the best pure wrestlers in MMA. I see Hendo's only chance being the H-bomb in this fight.
 
I don't expect much wrestling here......certainly not from Dan. He knows his best chance is with a knock out
 
Henderson has been outwrestled and outgrappled plenty of times by non wrestlers/grapplers. Cormier has a big wrestling advantage but Henderson's TDD has gotten better than it used to be.

Thats true but it does not tell the whole story. Dan a greco specialist and DC a freestyle specialist, but both did a full career of folkstyle/scholastic and they both made some noise in each others discipline. DC took a bronze in the Cadet worlds for Greco in a tourney that included a beast of a Russian. And Hendo won a national championship in freestyle at the University age level. Pretty cool.
 
When's the last time Hendo used his wrestling well? I like both, but Hendo is gonna get outclassed in every area. Fight IQ, octagon control, scrambling, balance, striking, footwork, striking defense, wrestling, BJJ, cardio... DC has many advantages.

And I wouldn't question his chin, he's been caught in earlier fights with big knees, punches, and went to WAR with Barnett, without ever looking slightly hurt, let alone rocked.

Hendo could always land a big H-Bomb, but Cormier is too fast and talented to have a good chance to catch him with the Nuke.
 
Technically, they're the same caliber seeing as how each had similar levels of success in wrestling all the way up to the Olympic level. Where Cormier has the advantage is in the fact that he's by far the naturally bigger man and far closer to his prime than a man who wrestled his first Olympics in 1992 and fought his first NHB match in 1997. It's not going to be pretty for Hendo unless the unthinkable happens and a Hail Mary H-Bomb connects.
 
I think that DC is going to outwrestle Hendo in the clinch and maybe take him to the ground.

The X-factor for Hendo is him throwing leather when the clinch brokes like he did against Shogun II.

Cormier's wrestling is leagues ahead of Hendo's at this point in his career.

Cormier could wrestle Dan to a UD if he wanted, but I think he'll go after the knockout in the 2nd after he tires Hendo out by outgrappling him in the 1st.
