I'm training on my own right now to try and build the endurance necessary for training at Fairtex here in San Francisco.

I know that core is essentially for effective kicks in MT and I'd like to know how some of you guys train the core to make the kicks more effective? It's a glaring weakness of mine currently, and I'd like my training sessions to be as productive as possible. Thanks.

if you want core strength its all about deadlifts and squats. You might have some better luck getting info from the conditioning subforum

Russian Twists
Saxon Side Bends
Back Extensions
V-Ups
Standing ab-wheel rollouts
Hanging pike
1 arm Deadlift Twist
Full Contact Twist
Dragonflag
Turkish Get-up
Plank

Look up those.

Yup. Those will do it. Check out some of rosses core training sessions too.

Thanks guys. I'll give these a shot and hopefully I'll be ready to start soon.

I may be misunderstanding your post, but assuming you aren't grossly overweight and have moderate cardio - then the best foundation to improving your core is actually training MT (or whatever) under a qualified teacher. Training on your own, or preparing to train usually make me wince. You will see faster progress if you just get in and train with a good teacher.

All the recommendations above are great, but I just feel that they are supplementary to actually training MT/boxing, and you shouldn't feel you have to prepare yourself overmuch. If you can jog for 20 minutes at a medium pace, then you probably won't puke in your training sessions, which means you are more than ready to start your training sessions.
