It's a defense mechanism to not dwell on things. Could you imagine if you were still upset at that job promotion you didn't get 5 years prior?

To be fair i nealy didnt cope with your post..

Plus i dont cope very well at all at certain things.. So no we all dont just cope at all.. Probably the other way around everybody puts up a front that they coping just fine where as there dieing inside.

What does those sayings have anything to do with coping? I think what you meant is a choice-supportive bias (or maybe another type of bias). People often try to justify their decisions, which can also come in a form of confirmation bias.
