Seems like an incredible waste of money.

The type of people that spend great amounts of money on food are typically doing so for social status - as evident by examples when people are tricked into thinking something cheap as hell is some grand cuisine. The same can be said for most art and wine.

Yeah shit is like the Emperor's New Clothes people don't want to come off as not getting why the thing is so valuable when in reality its not valuable at all.
 
How did that sundae cost 1000? I was expecting like 100 pounds of awesome looking ice cream. That just looks sad

well i guess it seems to them like an experience they won't forget ... but $1k on ice cream? and really not even that much ice cream... it's kind of sad that this even exists, let alone that they're proudly advertising it on their menu...

I remember when John Stossel did a show on 20/20 and had his 5 year old daughter enter a bunch of paintings into an art exhibit. They passed it off as a work by some great artist and even the "professional" critics were eating that shit up until he told them that his 5 yr old painted the crap.

I've also seen a show where they took some $3 wine and served it to people in a fancy restaurant and everyone commented on how delicious it was.

People are funny.

Really expensive things rarely come in bulk. Might not be the American way but often less is more.

Of course the $1k is a lot of gimmick. I doubt that gold is very tasty, but I'd have to guess since I would throw away my $1k on some different stupid thing.
