I get injured almost very time I roll. It's getting on my nerves. I can do full contact standup for weeks and not get anything worse than some bruises, but if I roll for more than a few days I hurt something. This time I sprained my thumb. Not a little sprain, my hand is so swollen I can't wear my wedding ring.

Anybody else have this problem? If so, is their anything you've done differently that has helped?

well i hurt my sholder last week in judo... but usualy i get injured in muay thai gym .. but if you train every day or almost evry day you allways gonna have some kind of pain....
keep training

How long have you been training? Those little recurring injuries depend a lot on your age, how long you've been training, & how frequently you train.

I still get banged up a bit, but nothing like the first few months. I supplement with glucosamine for the joints & cissus rx for the ligaments, I really feel that helps a bunch. Never rolling on consecutive days helps recovery as well. I'll work stand-up if I train the day after a hard rolling session. I don't recover as well at 30 as I did in my teens.

I've gotten hurt (substantially painfully) twice since I started judo, both times while we were doing ne-waza. It sucks, but luckily neither were bad enough for me to have to stay out of training. They just hurt like a SOB! My ankle is still sore from where a guy rolled over when I had him in a tiragle and then tried to bridge I think. It put all for his weight on the ankle along with my weight. There was a huge pop and the rest of the class just stopped to look.

Injuries are a part of the game if you plan on training constantly to get better.

You can try to minimize them by being smooth and fighting calm.
Most injuries come from people over fighting their fight. They dont know what they are doing, going crazy.. to much power.. then something slips, something pops, and then they are out for a week+.

Look into the glucosamine.
Also multivitamin, calcium, vit D and fish oil.
Be sure to get lots of rest, a hot shower to relax the muscles and a good night sleep afterwards.

I train about 3xstandup 3xground and try to get in a couple of running and weight sessions a week as well and have found im ALWAYS hurting from something. Thing is so is everyone else that's training hardcore alongside you - my teamates and I are all pretty much functional cripples. You got to tough it out unless its real bad, take a day off.

I've been training mma for about a year, judo for a year before that, TKD for 5 years before that, so I'm not new. I am getting old for this game at 34, I know that's part of it.

I supplement with a good multi, glucosamine/chondroitin, and omega 3's. It's just rolling, even judo didn't bang me up this much. I don't spaz when I roll, so it's not that, I try to be controlled and deliberate.

perhaps its not you but your training partners ... i mean if you're like 150lb don't roll with 250lb guys all the time, etc

Getting old sucks. And 34 isn't even really old!

I definitely subscribe to the "don't roll 2 days in a row" mentality.
Some people just have tougher joints than others. I am NOT one of those people.

I think once you get over 30 you need to take it easier and be hyper-vigilant about avoiding injury. I also have the "chronic injury" syndrome.
