The loss to Serra was the birth of a new GSP. Better trained BUT much more cautious and much more successful. Many claim Serra got in a lucky punch, but a punch is a punch.

Is Conor's loss to Nate worse than GSP's loss to Serra ?

Will Conor react by being much more cautious in his next fight ? Will this caution mean the magically creative offence is gone from his arsenal ?

It's too soon to tell. The fight just happened a week ago.

As much ch as I can't stand leprechaunnor, gsp tapped to strikes so that way worse. But McTapper turned into a panic wrestler so that's pretty bad too.

Cautious with output yes I imagine from his reaction he will seek to pick the shots better against bigger opposition.

Just another thread from a conor fan who needs something to hold on to smh

Literally nothing similar.Why the comparison?

If you pay attention, you can see how tentative GSP is and how terrible his movement is that fight (compared to usual).
Also, he never even threatens to change levels.
He stands in the little guy's range, like he almost thinks Serra can't reach far enough to touch his head.
Basically, for the whole round, he puts up with Serra coming in and out, and only throws a few high kicks in return.
He does not claim the center of the cage like he usually does.

That's not the GSP I am used to.

McTapper lol... say the fat, acne smeared kids who have no idea what combat is like or even what it's like to touch a woman. Get a life you basement dwelling oxygen thieves. How these people act as if they're champions themselves is embarrassing.

People on this forum love to try and equate situations to other past situations on this forum.

We don't know, GSP is arguably the GOAT, totally different style etc etc.

GSP is GSP and Conor is Conor, we'll see how his next few fights play out.

Setting a new low with this one.

GSP got caught by a lesser fighter. Conor got beat by a better fighter.

It much easier to adjust your strategy to avoid being caught, than become a better fighter.

the birth of efficient McGregor. 5 RD point fighting from now on

Serra beating GSP is universally considered a fluke

So no nothing alike really

gsp fights as a panic wrestler every fight

Lol I'd tap to strikes before I tap to a choke any day of the week.

The brain damage you get from being put to sleep is not even comparable to the brain damage you get from getting concussed.

GSP already had the tools to turn into what he became. He was good enough on the feet and dominant on the ground. Obviously there's no question about Conor's striking. But there's a lot of questions about his ground game. Until he has Aldo-like takedown defense, I wouldn't make that comparison. He could be as cautious as he wants, but there are a few guys who will take him down and possibly keep him there.

People are just out to get Conor because he is getting paid and has a lot to say and is getting TONs of attention.

GSP lost 2 of his first 3 title fights.

BJ fell short in his first two attempts at becoming a champ.

Anderson had 3 losses, 2 by way of submission before coming to the UFC. He had contemplated quitting but the Nogueira brothers talked him out of it. (maybe it was Big Nog, I forget exactly)

Wandy went 1-2 in the UFC before going unbeaten in 17 straight fights over 4 years in Pride.

(this list could go on forever, the point is....)

...LOTS of great fighters had some setbacks. Some of them had several setbacks. MMA fighters lose fights, it happens, especially to fighters who take on tough challenges, but with great risk comes great reward and Conor is willing to take the big risks for the big payday, big fame and big glory.

What happened in the Nate fight is highly unlikely to happen to Conor at 145, he can also have success at 155 if he makes some adjustments (doesn't blow his wad going for early finish, improves cardio, plays it a little safer as far as defense and shot selection)

Generally when fighters lose some sort of deficiency gets "exposed" .... there is a reason they lost after all... in this case the things that lead to Conor's loss are things he can improve.

- what weight he fights at
- what fights he takes
- his choice to take the fight to the ground
- his over commitment to the early finish
- BJJ sub defense and positioning. He could have held nate off long enough to survive, maybe get half guard, slowed him down long enough to recover. These are things that can be learned IF he is serious about putting in the time.
- check the EGO a bit
- etc...

Not comparable, Gsp skill set is more broad and he adjusted it to suit the style of fighting he has.

Conor has one skill set, unless he spends the rest of his career training extensively on wrestling and Bjj I still don't see it changing. He might however change it into a Machida style of striking, but that might cause him to lose some fights if it goes to the judges.
