Conor's lack of using a jab

Nate will be hurt badly from something like this. I think this may change the fight.

Both of these strikes.

Damn, I didnt realize that the body shot he landed on Diego was so clean. I thought it was blocked for the most part. He dug it straight in. Very impressive since Diego was in a awkward angle. His precision in his shot selection is truly remarkable.

Just had a conversation with Jay Electra about this a couple days ago. Conor has a jab, he's always had one. He doesn't put much emphasis on it though and doesn't throw it stiff with lots of pop. It's the first punch you learn in boxing (most important because it can create the openings for combinations off of it, close distance and keep distance, etc) and Conor's is more of a pawing jab. However, check out the UFC 196 open workout footage and you'll see Conor using his jab and putting some pop on it. Whether he'll use it in that manner in the Diaz fight we don't know. But it's mostly pawing in his fights, hand trapping with his lead hand and to probe to find range and reestablish if it's lost.

He has other more powerful weapons from his lead hand anyway, ones he's been very successful with. His lead uppercut being the most obvious one and he'll also throw hooks when he's in the pocket. He also loves to hand trap to take away his opponent's jab/lead hand, feint in a couple different ways (shoulder and throwing a decoy) and utilize fakes (feints =/= fakes). He'll sometimes double up on it as well, as he did in the Poirier finishing sequence to get him to momentarily freeze up (to get him purely on the defensive).

Nate will show him the benefits of the jab.

Conor has superior movement so the jab may not be such a factor in this fight. But it's interesting to see how he will fare against this kind of treat. Nate probably has a longer reach so this will provide a new challenge for McGregor.
Yet his diversity will be the key factor I guess. And McGregor is the much more diverse striker.

It's funny when somebody brings in the "short notice Diaz" like it's a factor...

Conor also fights on short notice. He was preparing for a very different opponent stylistically. In fact this fight is more beneficial for Diaz as he has nothing to lose and everything to gain.

GSP had a powerful stiff jab that he'd snap out there like that. He used it in a fencing like fashion but when he did this it left him open particularly to a hard body kick. Just nobody that he fought ever had the skill to exploit this or even attempted to that I recall.

His goofy stance doesn't lend itself to traditional boxing jab.

Dont see his kicking as a substitute, its completely different range. He can use it to disrupt opponent or keep them at distance but its not same for setting up left hand behind jab.

Conor was preparing for title fight. Diaz was not preparing for a fight at all. You can try to spin it but Diaz is the one with a disadvantage. That's why in most cases the replacement loses. But Diaz is most likely only there to get paid anyway.

Conor 's jab aint bad. He dont use it much during fights. But his jab is not bad at all for mma standards

Conor doesn't throw jabs, he feints them which is more effective. If you understand technical boxing Conor punches under jabs, Diaz always throws a long jab and follows it up with a 1-2 combination. You will see Conor feint is right hand and as soon as Diaz throws that right jab Conor is going to step inside and throw a hook or uppercut under. If Nate can throw his 1-2 combo and step outside of Conor's lead foot he can avoid getting countered when Conor steps in, but we all know Nate just likes to stand around after combos for some reason. I've always wanted to see how good Nate reacts to being counter punched and he is fighting a really technical guy in McGregor can't wait.

THIS! Finally someone who understands!

I was under the impression that Conor received notice months ago that he would indeed fight this weekend.

He can't throw a jab.

Medical conditions.
