I didn't pay too much attention to all these Conor vs. Floyd talks, and today I've read the article about Freddie Roach saying that Conor didn't do well in training with pro boxers. Well of course he didn't do well, he's a freaking MMA fighter.

So far everyone agrees that:

- Floyd would destroy Conor in a boxing fight
- Conor would destroy Floyd in an MMA fight.

So the question is, what rules would actually make this fight interesting ?

- Boxing rules with MMA gloves ?
- Kickboxing rules with boxing gloves ?
- Kickboxing rules with MMA gloves?

Any ideas ?

BJJ rules. Give Floyd a year and it might be competitive

A moat with alligators surrounding the ring

Otherwise I don't give a shit

I guess allowing elbows could be interesting.

The problem is Floyd only excells in a very limited aspect of combat and while he would be able to outbox Conor, adding any other method of fighting besides punches would immediately shift the fight towards Conor having the advantage, something Floyd would never allow.

Maybe they could impliment MMA rules unrelated to combat styles, like 8 oz gloves (as an above poster alluded), 3 or 5-5 minute rounds, or maybe have them compete in a cage.

I wouldnt say Conor would destroy Mayweather in an MMA fight ... cause in order to "destroy" him he would have to catch him !!
Still tho ... maybe kickboxing could be a "common" ground
I will watch either way... but i prefer if Conor sticks to his previous word and stays with MMA ... but then again , its a previous word , and he did previously say that Mayweather is old and belongs in the past ....

Full contact striking with MMA gloves. We all know Mayweather would destroy Conor in a boxing contest. Add kicks and make the gloves smaller and we'll know who the better striker is.

Boxing/K1 gloves are too big. They are used as a shield. So many fighters with amazing defense go to mma and get knocked out without their big puffy shields.

Every form of combat except pure boxing in a ring with 12 oz gloves favors McGregor.

12 rounds. MMA gloves.

Rounds 1-4 boxing rules
Rounds 4-8 Kickboxing rules
Rounds 8-12 MMA rules

I know it's dumb but this whole thing is dumb. It would be fun to see, though.

I guess it really wouldn't matter. Conor takes an ass whoopin' and probably doesn't make it past round 4, anyway.

Kickboxing rules with MMA or boxing gloves. Give Floyd a year or two to train. It's the only middleground where maybe one wouldn't utterly dominate the other (it would still heavily favor Conor, but Floyd would have a shot--certainly a better one than in an MMA match).

Boxing with mma gloves is a whole new ball game, a lot of boxing defence techniques wouldn't work, a lot of the stuff Floyd has been training his whole life wouldn't work, I wouldn't be 100 percent certain Floyd would win such a match up if it would happin.

If mayweather was Edgar, and it was an mma fight.

Interesting ideas but unfortunately I highly doubt that it would happen. And even if it did I'm not sure Conor would stand a chance even with the hybrid rules (except maybe the 8 oz gloves).
