Back when Conor was starting out and not really well known, everyone was so excited about Conor and watching him move up the ranks. Then he finally gets big, and everyone suddenlly hates him.

The truth is, people just love to hate the popular fighters to seem "different"

Today, we talk about Doo Ho Choi and how much we like him, if he ever becomes champ watch the hate threads start.

I think his disrespectful, asshole behavior made many people dislike him.

Super popular guys will always have haters that is true. But Conor has more than most because of all the shit that he talks. It's not hard to figure out.

    Basically this

I remember my first post here talking about Conor McGregor's grappling and not many had negative things to say aside from hoping for improvements and being excited to watch a young prospect.

It is just the way it goes.

Conor's hate has been pretty consistent. The only thing unique about it is that a everyone seems convinced he's actually a bad fighter.

    That's been the weird part.

Bad fighter? Naw. He gets called out for getting favorable match ups and being one dimensional. I don't think anyone can really try to argue that he is a bad fighter though.

Calling Siver a Nazi was beyond moronic. It really turned me off the guy. I also feel like he's a bit of a fraud really - so much talk about his will to win, mental strength, iron chin, etc etc, and then he got hit with a Diaz one-two and fell to pieces. Clearly not the warrior he and Zuffa billed him as. All hot air.

Mendes and Aldo are favorable matchups.

He first got a title shot off of beating Siver.

He earned it off of Poirier. He took Siver to stay busy. I don't understand how people can be this blind when it comes to a fighter.

Let us compare runs to a FW title throughout the UFC's history shall we?

    Conor McGregor
    ---
    1. Chad Mendes (Interim title)
    2. Dennis Siver
    3. Dustin Poirier
    4. Diego Brandao
    5. Max Holloway
    6. Marcus Brimage
    --
    Chad Mendes II
    ----
    1. To get title shot: Nik Lentz
    2. Clay Guida
    3. Darren Elkins
    4. Yaotzin Mera
    5. Cody McKenzie
    ---
    Ricardo Llamas
    ---
(Fought Aldo after a year of inactivity)
    1. Eric Koch
    2. Hatsu Hioki
    3. Cub Swanson
    4. Matt Grice
    ---
    Korean Zombie
    ---
    1. To get title shot: Dustin Poirier
    2. Mark Hominick
    3. Leonard Garcia
    ---
    Frankie Edgar
    ---
Fought for the title coming off two losses to Benson Henderson
    --
    Kenny Florian
    ---
    1. Diego Nunes

No. He got it for finishing every fighter in brutal fashion (except the time I was on one leg).

Not to mention Aldo had beaten Frankie, Mendes (twice), and Lamas - it was the next logical step.

I should have said "favoritism" in that post just as a more general concept. I wasn't trying to get in a big debate on favorable match ups, but I would certainly argue that Poirier and Siver were favorable match ups for Conor and he should have needed to do more to earn a title shot than that.

Again, you list Mendes when Conor did not need to fight Mendes to get the title shot.

didn't you know TS. People who are confident are bullies, and calling poor Siver a nazi is so unspeakable LOL. A FW fighter in the UFC makes grown men lose sleep.

Conor McGregor had the toughest run to a FW title shot in UFC history.

    Fact.

Poirier and Siver? That's embarrassing if true.
