Was all this talk about him being the ruler of the numbers, with or without the belt, just a way of him staying relevant if he looses to Aldo?

I think he has a point...especially as he is renewing his contract.....although if this was said by Aldo....Conor would be balls deep in that stuff!

Sounds like defeatist talk quite early on by Conor.

"I said the numbers rule, all the belts in the UFC mean nothing," McGregor said. "Everyone was handed a belt, Jose was handed a belt, the belts mean nothing. Numbers rule in this game and I'm the ruler of the numbers."

It just came across as more waffle to me. However, perhaps it indicates that he's more concerned by money now. It's hard to say what effect that will have. Until now, he's always felt destined for greatness, now he just wants money.

I kind of disagree with Conor for once. The belt neutralizes bad numbers. You'll get the biggest fights. You can do what you want. Once you lose that belt, you lose a lot of power. Getting high numbers can equal the power of the belt.

Numbers are more important than the belt when it comes to gaining money. I can agree with that. But even then, you get more money with numbers AND a belt. The belt is a powerful thing.

Keep telling that to yourself if it makes you safe at night, when doubt consumes you.

He realises that if you make the numbers, you make the money, and that greatness comes with that anyway.

He is showing the all other MMA fighters how it is really done.

Mcgregor getting wrecked by Aldo will make him look bad but i do think he can lose all his fights from now on and still bring great numbers.

Everyone else is playing Checkers while Conor is playing Game Of The Numbers.

No, his talk regarding the numbers is all directed at the UFC top Brass, he is gonna make sure he squeezes every penny out of this short career.

And winning the belt will mean even more money.

Conor Anthony McGregor (born 14 July 1988) is an Irish mixed martial artist who currently competes in the featherweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He is the current UFC Interim Featherweight Champion. McGregor is also the former Cage Warriors featherweight and lightweight champion. As of 25 August 2015, he is the #1 ranked featherweight and #11 ranked pound-for-pound fighter in official UFC rankings.

Someone gets it, some of these others posters are so basic.

The belt definitely matters. But the truth is, Conor will be popular even if he loses to Aldo, and he's going to continue making more than some champions.

He spoke about 'the numbers' for about 60 seconds in the whole 40 minute interview

If you listened to the whole interview you would know that he's even more confident about beating Jose and even talking about winning the LW belt and defending it at UFC 200

Conor haters have selective hearing

Same old garbage

Im the number..

Respect good buisness...

Im the moneyfight..

I love you like my bitch..

Im to fast...

You are to slow..

Tobad, inbetween these obnixious repetative rants he actually have short moments where he is likable, saying sensible stuff.

McGregor definitely cares about the belt, he's having fun with what he says and is putting on a show.

Connor probably made more money in two years than Aldo in his entire career.
So, what is in fact the meaning of a belt?
If you're striving for glory then maybe a belt is pretty important. If you're striving for a good life full of money which is essentially freedom than the belt is meaningless.
