Conor obviously struggled because of the quick change in style preparation.

Styles make fights. Conor like Jones is one of the few fighters who can manipulate their own style in order to fit with their opponents. I think we can all agree that some fighters are victims and prisoners of their natural style. Some, like I said, are able to be like water and find different paths to victory. This is what seperated the champs from the number #2's

RDA is a great fighter and a tough matchup who has been on a tear. Conor obviously knew this and was training significantly in order to be able to best handle that style of fighting. But when Diaz was announced, everything was wasted and conor had to start from scratch in order to take on what IMO was an even greater challenge. Yes, RDA beat Diaz, but it is clear to anyone that Nate is much much much much much more of a stylistic nightmare for conor.

You can bring up the mendez fight, but Nate is a way better fighter than mendes. It isn't even close. look at level of competition fought AND beaten.

Well before the fight quite a lot of people were not giving Diaz a chance. So all of these threads are ridiculous. He lost. Get over it.

Thinky veiled excuse thread? We have no way of knowing that McGregor obviously anything.

Should I make a thread that Nate obviously would have finished Conor in the first round if he had a full training camp? No, because I don't wish to beat the shit out of a dead horse.

Can we not simply keep the conversation to the actual technique and strategies?

Nate had no camp. Conor had a full fight camp. Let's not forget this little detail before starting to speculate with all these reasons for Conor's loss.

Diaz came off the couch and finished McGregor.

Just stop already.

Conor: I don't train for a style.

Conor fans: He lost because of the style change.

Stylistically, Conor punched Nate's face in for the better part of a round+. Conor just broke first. Get over it. He lost. Nate was on vacation 10 days before the fight--how's that not advantage Conor?

This sh*t right here. Right from the horse's mouth, but fanboys still want to use the excuse.

Full camp for RDA a small guy. Diaz is tall, longer reach huge difference in opponent on 10 days notice. He was not prepared conditionally for 170 fight on 10 days notice.

Diaz had a huge difference in opponent on 10 days notice also. + no camp

No knowledgeable mma fan ever had diaz as a sitting duck.

Nah, I disagree, but get what you're saying. I think Conor over-estimated his power and at certain points in the 1st round kept going for the Hollywood finish. I'd imagine it's a lot more easier to panic when your go to finisher isn't putting someone down during a fight. I don't think he's going to be throwing that heavy in sparring and KO'ing whoever he's sparring with. Just unfortunate for him, he found out during the fight that wasn't the case.

He was honest about it afterwards, where as a lot of fighters will complain and blame it on something or someone else. To paraphrase Robin Black, that shows 'growth mentality' He believed it wouldn't be an issue, but he learned a valuable lesson in that sense.

From the amateur couch point of view; I felt he should have thrown more shots to the body. It felt like he got sucked in to a Boxing match and I thought at times Diaz was starting to fade, so, maybe that's why he kept throwing the hands. Carrying the extra weight and getting tired takes longer to recover from. I think Lockhart was right advising that going up in weight to 170 he needs to put on muscle and let his body have a chance to adjust to it.

On fight night Conor weighs 170 when he is fighting at 145. He weighed exactly what the fuck he would have weighed otherwise. The only fucking difference is that he fought a guy who also didn't cut weight and weighed the same as he did, but had height, reach, striking, BJJ and wrestling advantages over him.

My :eek::eek::eek::eek: was probably in the middle of a blunt session when he got the call. "You wanna fight mcgoober in a few days?"

Great point. Unfortunately the dummies never factor this in.

"But he roll off couch ooo ooo ah ah"

Conor had to make a significant adjustment
