Yea because ali's totally the one who decides who gets title shots. My whole point is that ali knows the amount of money and notoriety involved in a Conor fight, so suggesting that Conor needs to fight one of his fighters in order to earn the right to fight another one is obviously just him looking for a big check. If Conor didn't have the pull he has, ali wouldn't give af. Suggesting a fight with Islam only gives him away, seeing that a Gaethje fight is actually plausible. And while Cowboy's loss did nothing for him title shot wise, all I'm saying is that he got the big ppv fight with Conor because he's a big name. Ali doesn't control shit, and if you think Dana's going to let him and Khabib dictate the terms of a Conor rematch should Khabib get by Ferguson, then you don't know Dana very well. He'll strip Khabib in a second. While I agree Conor gets bullshit advantages, it's the name of the game. What Ali is suggesting won't happen. There's too much money involved in having Conor in the title picture, and a fight with Gaethje is a risk to that.

The fact that the two options are Ali's own fighters tells you everything you need to know about his opinion. Justin and Islam are 10 rankings apart, and both lower than Conor. Justin does make sense if Conor doesn't gun for the higher ranked Poirier (who beat Justin) in an effort to get another win to justify a shot, but Islam is a laughable option to throw out there.

Islam isnt nearly as laughable an option as....Donald Cerrone or Nathan Diaz were in regards to earning a title shot. Islam is up and coming, is one of Khabibs closest friends and training partner that he claims will be heir to his throne. Islam vs Conor answers more questions in regards to Conor vs Khabib II than Conor vs Gaethje or Poirier in some ways and spins a good narrative too.

Conor wanted the rematch but was forced to take a tune-up fight because Khabib didnt agree to fight him. Conor admitted this himself in a public interview.

I'd personally like to see McGregor vs Gaethje.

Reason being, Conor jumped ahead of Gaethje in the rankings with a 40-second KO of Cowboy Cerrone, whom Gaethje himself had also just KO'd in the first round, a few months prior.

Meanwhile, Gaethje has had three first-round knockouts (again, including Cowboy Cerrone), since getting stopped by Alvarez and Poirier. Justin learned and improved, due to his losses.

But if a Conor fight is going to stop Gaethje from a title shot, I'd rather have Islam fight McGregor.

I want Gaethje vs Khabib.
