Conor McGregor has never even attempted to defend a UFC title, and he’s just set a new record in the process.

Love him or hate him, Conor McGregor keeps finding ways to rewrite the record books.

It was just fifteen months ago that McGregor became the first fighter to simultaneously possess two UFC titles. That lasted for all of two weeks, as he vacated the featherweight title, making him just the lightweight champion.

McGregor spent 2017 exclusively focusing (and getting) his boxing superfight vs. Floyd Mayweather, losing by 10th round TKO, but also raking in a ridiculous amount of money and bringing in more than four million pay-per-view buys.

As of February 18th, 2018, McGregor has set a new record. It’s probably not a fact that any fan will actually like, but it’s nevertheless true.

This table from Nick Dwyer (@NickDwyerMMA) shows that McGregor has gone 463 (now 464 as of Monday) days without even attempting to make a first defense of his UFC lightweight title. He’d also been the featherweight champion for 350 days before relinquishing that belt, and not once was he ever booked to make a defense of that belt.

McGregor has surpassed Anthony Pettis for most consecutive days a UFC champion has not even attempted to defend his title. In fact, McGregor takes 1st and 6th on the list for his two championships. Those ranked 2nd-5th — Pettis, Frank Mir, Cain Velasquez (when he won the heavyweight belt in 2010), and Matt Serra — all had some sort of injury that affected their ability to defend their respective titles, with Mir being outright stripped after his motorcycle accident. In Pettis’ case, he was both injured and then later chosen to coach season 20 of The Ultimate Fighter.

With the list of opponents and short notice fights Conor has taken, I don't think its fair to say he is ducking anyone. He has said he will fight the winner of Tony vs Khabib multiple times and even in Russia if possible. People can hate on Conor all they want but hes the most successful MMA fighter of all time and his resume of wins is nothing to laugh at.

He knows he got Lucky AF on way up and with second chance after Diaz smashed him and gifted title shots and saw what happened to Rousey. He's say fuck that noise I'm not getting rousey'd.

CoNor was stripped of the featherweight belt. He didn't vacate.

true but wouldn't be nice to see him fight, it's pretty frustrating, yeah he got money(don't know why people give a shit) but he's one of the best, the fans are the ones getting screwed

Nothing more annoying than seeing a thread for the 5th type that was originally copied from Reddit MMA to begin with.

As soon as I read the title I knew what this thread was going to be about. That's how lame Conor thread starters are.

Just let him fade into irrelevancy already or wait until he actually has a sceduled.

well he fought chad and nate on extremely short notice??
No, they fought him on extremely short notice. He had a full training camp for those fights, he just needed to change his gameplan, while Chad and Nate didn't.
What will you say if he fights Khabib later this year? Cause that fight hasnt been offered to him yet.
I won't say anything because that fight isn't happening. He hasn't competed in MMA since 2016, and the winner of Khabib/Tony will be the undisputed Lightweight champion meaning McGregor is going to get stripped again, so why would he fight either of them if he doesn't see them as money fights and he won't be the champion anymore?

They were the one who didn’t train
He was simply preparing to fight someone else
Conor should t be praised for that, especially when he was the one who personally handpicked Nate out of multiple choices

Who ? Nate ? Chad ? Chad was the one with no training camp and Nate, well Conor probably thought that was an easy fight. Sick of this fabricated shit about Conor being some Sakuraba 2.0, Nate didn't have that much of a size advantage over him. Not in the grand scheme of things.
