A lot of people credit McGregor's PPV success with his personality, which is certainly a factor, but I think the biggest and often unsaid factor is also his ability as the most deadly featherweight in featherweight history.
Conor McGregor is without a doubt the most deadly KO artist in featherweight history... but he might also hold the record for most/the highest percentage of KO/TKO finishes leading up to a title fight.
Prior to his infamous Jose Aldo knockout, McGregor was 18-2, with 17 of those ways coming by way of KO/TKO.
That's a 94.44% KO/TKO rate as a featherweight, I don't think anyone can beat that.
Was there any fighter with a more impressive KO/TKO resume leading up to a title fight?
I don't think even heavyweights could compare to featherweight McGregor KO record.
