Preface: I put little time/effort into this post, as I have to finish getting ready for the fight. I just wanted to put some final thoughts out there. And of course, if I'm way off base, (I am not) then bump ahoy.
So, I've been reading threads on here referencing said "elite striking"... lol
No.
Yes, Conor is heavy handed, (i.e. fast-twitch fibers ((in specific parts of ones body)) that enable punching "through" ones target) but that's about it. He is more one dimensional than most people think.
In fact, it's that very thing which has bailed him out many times, as he can land KO shots even while off balance.
Of course, the implication is that he would be more effective if he was an elite striker, but...he isn't.
Mind you, he has elite success, (as far as his record is concerned, but not so much his quality of opponents) but a fundamentally sound fighter he is NOT.
...and he is not going to magically transform into one against Khabib.
In boxing terms, he is akin to someone like Nigel Benn.
Like Benn, Conor has natural power, but he lacks elite technique which would maximize his effectiveness and help his conserve energy. (he WILL gas against Khabib)
Just look at his 2 fights with Nate... Conor and his shite footwork and wonky centerline were on full display. If Conor was a better "striker", he could have KOed one dimensional Nate with relative ease, (of course, Conor's aforementioned shit stamina was also a factor) and yes, that is in spite of Nate having a great chin and great toughness.
In fact, Conor is so vastly arrogant about his power to the extent of being held back by the very thing that has brought him success...
Oh, and lest we forget about Conor in a boxing ring. -_- His standup fundamentals are just... not there.
Anyway, expect Khabib to successfully go for single leg takedowns at will. (Conor and his needlessly wide stance FTL) Conor does NOT have a simple jab that could be a vital tool in which to offset Khabib and set up combos.
Expect Conor to GAS...(in large part from escaping the ground) thus giving Khabib a WORLD of possibilities in which to put Conor out of his fucking misery.
Expect ZERO successful leg kicks from Conor, because again...he relies on his punching power...and against Khabib, it will not be enough.
Yes, I foresee Khabib getting dropped, (I see him getting nicely clipped in round one, with Conor not being able to take advantage of it) but Conor will not come close to finishing him, in part due to Khabib's stellar chin. (if Khabib has great recovery on top of having a SOLID chin...DAMN son...)
In the end, Conor IS going to look sloppy against Khabib, and guess why... It's because he IS sloppy. He has a punchers chance, but against Khabib that will not be enough.
Expect Conor's poor footwork (which in turn, creates poor striking technique) to be amplified by the end of round 2, onward to looking for a soft spot on the mat, akin to his first fight with Nate.
And also akin to his fight with Nate, Conor WILL tap, be it to the early stages of a submission, or straight up GnP.
His demise will come at the end of round 3 or middle of round 4. But for the precise nature of this email, I will say...round 4.
It will be a grindy type of fight in which Conor looks DANGEROUS early, then...quite harmless, like he did vs Nate part 2. All he could do was run and stall.
...but mere stalling will NOT work against Khabib.
TLDR: Khabib will own Conor's soul.
