When i look at fighters, I try to be realistic about their accomplishments and the quality of their opposition. I look at Conor's rise to fame and try to understand it but the way it all went down still confounds me. The hype started getting stronger just before the Dustin Porier fight. Dustin was then ranked 5th UFC featherweight . Conor one that fight quikcly and all of a sudden there was talk of a championship fight. So then, the UFC gives Conor a give me, Dennis Siver at no. 8th, just to ensure Conor the opportunity for a title match. In reality, beating Siver did not mean much. For the last two years Jose Aldo has been battling injuties and even prior to that, fighting hurt. He was inactive as a champion ( 2 fights in 2 years ), not liked by UFC and targeted for Conor. So, when Aldo does not want to fight injured, UFC allows Mendez on two weeks notice to fight Conor for the Interim Belt ( Mendez had just lost to Aldo and the shot should go to Edgar but Edgar is far too dangerous for Conor ). So Conor beats a clearly unprepared Mendez ( a winded wrestler in the second round ??? ) and gets Aldo . Aldo fights injured but this time can not pull out of the fight and is quickly destroyed. In the process, UFC ensured that Aldo's ranking prior to that was still pound for pound best, although by the time the fight took place, Aldo's actual ranking was nowhere near that. So, now it's easy for the super hype to start rolling and make Conor the 3d pound for pound fighter in the world, BS! But Conor is having a problem with cutting weight. He's been dehydrating to fight midgets and the ever dangerous Edgar just might beat Conor and take away his marketability. Ok, so let's create a super fight and let Conor face RDA and then God intervenes in Conor's favor and RDA breaks a foot in training and Conor is still calling him out. Maybe the only way he can beat him if RDA fights with a broken foot. Conor all ready has had a full training camp and has peaked at 168 prior to the weight cut, so noiw let's find Conor a fighter who walks at 170 but fights at 155 and thy can fight on short notice at that catch weight. Hoakey??? Enter Nate Diaz, who by all accounts was supposed to be a give me ( 4 - 1 dog in Vegas ). The rest is history and Nate proves that Conor is nothing but overhype but the Conor nuthugger train rolls on with all kind of excuses. Who knowws, maybe eventually, UFC will give him Lawler and Robbie will send him in a coffin back to Ireland, where Conor will receive a funeral benefiting a king.
