Conor has very little leverage against the UFC.

Conor can bring in the money short term for the UFC, but for long term whats important for the UFC in their brand. Their brand is they promote the best fighters in the world.

Conor is a low end top 10 lightweight. He isnt a featherweight anymore, and after Frankie vs Aldo the UFC will have the best featherweight as champion, and the best lightweight as champion. Their brand remains solid and they can move on.

Hype is temporary, but greatness is forever. Conor still needs the UFC to become an all time great. Otherwise he's just an ex champion with no title defenses.

Short term profit is nearly impossible for heads of business to overlook.

I agree that McGregor is a low end top 10 lightweight and that Edgar might be better than him at FW but you're crazy if you think he has no leverage...He's the biggest cross over star the UFC has ever had. They've made millions off of him and stand to make more...It's their collective best interest to compromise.

Yeah I'm not surprised with the decision. No one is above the promotion. You give Conor lee-way and that sets a precedent for the next diva. There will always be an up and coming fighter. Too many fucking people on this planet.

The UFC has always seemed to act in their long term interests. They wouldnt promote a catch weight or any weight Cyborg fight, and they wouldnt ease their control to promote Fedor.

Little leverage? Look at the first page of the forum, look at Twitter, look at the PPV buyrates. If he could fight for Bellator, UFC would be on their hands and knees.

If i were the UFC i would compromise on his next fight, but i wouldnt allow him to just break his contract during the promotion of this fight. One fight isnt worth the precedent that would create.

Nick did the same before. Dana still loves him.

False. Caving into his demands would show weakness and that is the last thing UFC wants. UFC's mission statement is promoting the brand before the "fighters" and giving Can any quarter directly contradicts their model.

The UFC can go on promoting the big leagues of the sport, and Conor could go make half the money adding nothing to his legacy in Bellator. Benson would probably kick his ass anyways.

Your way of thinking is completely wrong look at jones lhw goat vs conor threads.

Yes. Nick was pulled from the fight, and they dealt with him for future fights. I think the UFC should definitely continue working with Conor, but any big company has to operate where your word is your word, on both sides.

That's more than a little leverage.

I agree Conor is the biggest star, but losing Jones would harm the brand more than losing Conor. If Bellator had Jones they could start claiming they were the premier promotion. Also if a fighter wanted to be the best LHW in the world, they would have to go to Bellator. Conor means nothing in the current rankings.

You missed the point. 3.5 million is a drop in the bucket up against the brand of the UFC.
