... in the eyes of the mainstream, non-MMA freak, market that UFC is trying hard to conquer?

Will Conor come back to the UFC with less aura after a boxing loss?

Or would it actually help UFC/MMA win or lose?

What you think? If Conor goes and box and loses will he remain the same drawing power?

If it's under boxing rules then no it won't make mma look bad

No. It won't matter one bit. Which is exactly why Mayweather will get a far bigger cut of the purse.

It makes Conor look bad, but not the rest of MMA/UFC. Even then, I don't foresee it making him look so bad that it would negatively affect his drawing power. Floyd is one of the all-time great boxers, losing to him doesn't damage your credibility.

....not even remotely.

Anyone who thinks Conor has a remote chance of winning that boxing match has a screw loose.

Anything other than a total starching of McGregor will make MMA look good.

Nobody thought boxing looked bad when James Toney got submitted. It was just a different sport.

It will however make boxing look bad if McGregor can hold his own for even a little while.

If it's a boxing match, no, it won't, because they're two totally different sports which anyone with a brain fully understands. If he lost an MMA match with Mayweather (obviously that would never happen) it would be pretty fucking devastating.

We are talking about McGregor here, by the time the fight happens he would have talked it up so much that it would look like gold turning to crap at the end.

How is that? An MMA fighter with no professional boxing matches loses to the best boxer ever? It won't impact Conor one bit if he comes back and defends one of his belts. If he loses in MMA, then people will say boxing Mayweather starched his career.

I agree, especially with your first sentence. I think Conor does last a few rounds, too, because Mayweather is not really a powerful knockout puncher. So, even though Conor will definitely lose a boxing match to Mayweather, MMA will still come off looking pretty good because I think Conor will survive a bit. Good chin paired with an opponent who is not known for being powerful.

McGregor's loss to Mayweather won't impact MMA at all.

McGregor's fanboys will just whine about how their hero got robbed.

Difference is toney is not a wrestler. Conor is seen as the best striker in mma anf if he gets destroyed it sure will make mma look bad

Boxing is what Conor is primarily known for doing in the Octagon - It makes up literally at least 98% of his offense - and getting toyed by Floyd would be McGregor getting owned at his own speciality.

A lot of casuals (and even people on here) think that McGregor actually has a chance or that he can last the full 12 rounds, only losing on points. So to those people (and don't underestimate how many of them there are, see Ronda Rousey) it will be damaging for McGregor's image and the image of the UFC when McGregor gets stopped early and easily by little Floyd.

No, everybody knows Conor can kill him at will. If he loses, nothing happens. On the other hand if Floyd was to lose, make no mistake about it, boxing will be literally dead.

No one will care outside of the small group that frequent the Sherdog Boxing forum.

No, it won't.

It'd be talked about for a week/two weeks max, then people would realize it happened what it was suppose to happen, but for all the $$$ involved it's no surprise Conor is pushing for it.

Only chance this goes the distance is if Mayweather is willing to carry McGregor through it.

This is generating money and interest. No matter what, there aren't any real losers in this.

Mayweather is old and retired and Conor is young with plenty of time to "recover" if he loses.

Aka. He will still wake up in the morning in a mansion with a mimosa. Just a hell of a lot richer than he already was.

Conor is a business man. These issues of pride and legacy are more your hang ups than his. He's obviously not afraid of risks and losing.
