People who believe he was begging for mercy are either plain stupid or suckers for poetic justice trope.
Why would he beg his opponent for mercy? They are not gladiators, they are not pitted against each other in a real "to the death" fight. They are fighters who fight in a highly-regulated environment. Add to it the fact that the beating he had gotten wasn't even that bad. I could see this narrative taking off in a scenario in which Conor was utterly destroyed like when e.g. Sakuraba was destroyed against Arona, but to think he was begging Khabib for mercy after getting hit a few times is reaching.
He almost got his arm ripped off that round, thats why.
