Im gunna be honest im a conor fan i mean who doesnt like his style of fighting? Im hoping Conor knocks Eddie the out and become the champ but is it good for the sport? is Conor gunna start holding LW division like he's doin in FW? i can see so many classic fights in 155 that can turn him into a legend (yes, nuthuggers hes not a legend not yet atleast) but what if he just retires after couple more fights? or become the nxt jones? thoughts?

Conor winning is great for the sport. period. Even if he holds up the division for a year 1 Conor fight is literally worth 6 title fights with any other LW.

No it's terrible for the actual sport. It's great for entertainment.

he wont be jones not even close, but i think he retires or takes a break after 205

I argue that dominant champs are good for the health of the sport to an extent.

Conor winning pushes the sport further into the mainstream, which is good for the sport overall

so yeah, him winning is the best thing for the sport in general

Showing that undeserved title shots result in an ass whooping is best for the sport

Conor win at 205 = first title defense in 2018

Conor loss at 205 = run away like Rousey did. Maybe a return fight when he runs his cashflow to nil in 2018/19.

Either way, this will be the last time we see McGregor in the cage for quite some time.

Conor winning is pushing HIM to the mainstream. Not the sport.

The mainstream media interviewing him doesn't know about the sport. They know him.

Yes it would be. I don't think Colin taking a year off would damage anything either from a casual standpoint. His return would destroy his previous numbers and compensate for the lack of activity with ease.

so all of the attention he brings doesnt directly benefit the rest of the fighters on the card?

dont be an idiot, big stars are good for the sport..... and Conor is the biggest star in the sport

I'd question that, it draws well in the short time but what is the effect in long term credibility? Sapp in K-1 comes to mind as indeed does Brock, massive draw for a short time but the UFC went into decline for 2-3 years afterwards.

The UFC has IMHO never been a very far sighted promotion regardless of what Dana and co claim, maximum short term cash has always been the main focus.

It doesn't. Almost none of those fighters are getting ppv points. And casual fans don't care about the undercard.

Sorry dude, but don't compare Rousey to McGregor.

McGregor lost to Diaz and straight up let people know he wanted it back. Ronda almost killed herself, cried on Ellen and covered her face with a purple pillow. I'm not a nuthugger, but McGregor doesn't run away after losing fights. Ronda hid in her house and still cries over questions regarding her fight with Holly and a potential fight with Cyborg.

It will be terrible for the sport. It will delegitimize the FW title (because he will drop it). More fighters will pick and choose their opponents and no real LW contender will get a TS.

Maybe good for mainstream appeal but bad for both divisions he's "holding" belts in because he'd Once again refuse to take any fights in which he could possibly lose those belts. If he wins this one, say hello to WW Conor

Only the champions. The rest not so much. Cerrone said this. I believe in him more than another Conor dude in here. You don't know how the contracts work.

The event being in NY, does affect the other fighters on the card.

Conor is absolutely the biggest star right now. That's great for him, the UFC and Reebok. The UFC isn't the sport. The sport is MMA. UFC is actually a company (can't believe that i had to explain this).

Conor has been mainstream for over a year now. That has been so awesome for him. He's been making all kinds of money. But the actual sport hasn't progressed since then. It has declined as far as legitimacy goes. Atleast the UFC did. Fighters are more miserable now than ever. Have you seen all the complaints the "thinking about retire" news from fighters lately? Shit. Not saying that's his fault but what has he done to make it better?

This is sports entertainment and not only a sport though, so Mcgregor winning the LW belt will be great.
