To answer your question, from Brown to Black can easily take half a decade. It’s the hardest leap imo. Most Black Belts earned under 10 years are trash. Very few exceptions.

Gordon Ryan went from white belt to black belt in about 6 years. But he definitely belongs to the exceptions.

Who cares about belts? Mousasi doesnt have a bjj-belt but that 4th degree black belt couldnt submit him while they were on the ground for 15 minutes. Mousasi himself has 10 or so submission wins.
Overeem is a blue belt and has almost as much sub wins as he has ko wins.

conor did better than poirier on the ground (outside of one guillotine attempt), better than a bunch of people khabib has faced and did 40 x better than gaethje.


yeah conor doesn't have the best BJJ, but it's not terrible it's just a little above average or just average for a pure striker.

His BJJ and defensive wrestling is actually quite good i'd say, it's just that quite good is not enough against Khabib.

TriStar gym run by Firas Zahabi only gives out no-gi black belts in BJJ.
