Elections Congratulations to Mayor Pete Buttigieg for Winning the Iowa Caucuses!

In the real world, we live in unpractical times where half the working population can’t afford a $500 emergency so save the fucking crying and be a part of progress or get carried to the finish line like the rest of the disastrous liberals

In the real world, half the working population who don’t put money aside are idiots and consider luxuries to be necessities. And spare me your bullshit. I was able to save even when I was only making 40k/year.

Delicious! Unlike mayor Pete lmao

The twinks won't leave me alone. I'm more inclined to see them as cute and innocent little bros than anything else. That's why I support gay rights tbh. And yeah, I'd much prefer the latter between these two.
Americans were much more open to the prospect of a gay married couple, completely scrubbed of any visible signifiers of their cultural background... than a single homosexual slangin his d around town.

Anyone who thinks this fool is gonna be pres lmao......

Pretty darn close race. Even the person in last place got 12%.

Whatever makes you feel better. Bernie still finished in an extremely strong second place. He's positioned to become perhaps the most prolific silver medal winner in all of politics.

There's that pro Bernie guy I've been hearing about.

The thing that bothers me about Pete is that everything he says is rehearsed. I'd like to see what real Pete is like, but we never get to see him. He's amazing at public speaking though. Those rehearsed lines just flow seamlessly, there's almost never a crack in the armour no matter the situation. It's one thing to be seamless in a monologue, but much harder in responses. A lot of people never get that good even with a ton of public speaking experience.

So even though I'm not a fan for the rehearsed lines, it's probably a huge part of his success. It's like the "Obama" factor. Great public speaking, even though it's empty platitudes and I suspect under pressure and in situations where one needs to improvise (e.g. 1 v. 1 debates during election) it's definitely not as effective. I don't think he's good at just coming up with witty responses on the go.

Lemme guess, you just decided to back Pete not too long ago, right? For no particular reason? Now you're posting like him. I'm going to guess it's partly trolling until the actual nominee is decided.

I've been a fan of Pete for quite a while, and at times he has been my favorite choice in the race (I've also been behind Sanders and Warren). Either way I'm happy to see him doing well. I'm having a little fun at how upset people are about him, and I'm caricaturing the "Platitude Pete" thing for funsies and because I enjoy written impersonations.

I had a bit of fun at Viva's expense the other night. Can't Beat Pete 2020!

I guess there's a big Midwestern gay scene in Iowa.

Is Pete the best chance the Dems have at defeating Trump?

Nobody knows how electability works (but everyone thinks they do)

Some of his positives are that he's articulate and intelligent, he does well with voters in the Midwest, and that his policy proposals are progressive but not "scary" progressive.
Some of his negatives are that he's perceived by a lot of black people as racist, has very little experience, and it's possible that being gay is still a problem for a candidate.

But since the country is so partisan, and since even "Independents" are probably (secretly) a lot more partisan than we think, it's harder to move anyone, and the difference will be turning out voters and pulling what is probably a rather small number of persuadable Independents.

Buttgieg sounds like something a porn star does to make the big bucks.

Out of the candidates who you want to see the least ? Sanders ?

You liberals are disastrous cowards

Get behind Bernie or lose your party forever
Cowards? What the hell is wrong with you?

Also, a Bernie take over could mean damaging the party in the long run.

I'm surprised a heartland state like Iowa embraced a Butt for president. A gay Butt at that.

Trolling aside, I like Pete ok.

I think he doesn't have the backbone he needs to be President. He also seems very much like a man who gives lip service to the black community but does not follow up on it (hence the tough questions last night during the debate. By far his weakest moment.)

In my mind, he had both the best moments and worst moments of the debates up to this point, both last night. He looked and sounded more Presidental than he ever has before, but also looked like he didn't actually care about the black population.

Whichever people remember more going forward I think will define his campaign.
