I know guys all loved the previous thread comparing UFC pay to golfers (mainly female golfers, not even the male ones). In that thread I was comparing more median/middle, so the #10 ufc fighters in each weight class, with the #50 female golfer

This thread wasn't meant to elicit any sympathy for fighters, nor a case for them to make more money, it was simply to state factual observations and disparity. People can take what they want from it.

In this thread, I'm comparing more of the top end UFC fighter, name the biggest champion of all Ngannou

Francis Ngannou just came off his biggest win, becoming UFC HW champion. Outside a few exceptions such as Conor and maybe Jones (however he hasn't really fought in a long time), Ngannou should be the biggest if not one of the biggest names in the UFC (has that African connection/audience and that French connection / audience).

Ngannou has career disclosed earnings in UFC of $2.7M, i'm going to be generous and i'll go ahead and add another $2.3M (this should cover PPV, sponsorships, back room bonuses - lol i don't believe in these). So let's say that' $5M Gross, pre tax, before mgr, training etc.

In his latest fight, he had $500K to show, assuming ppv let's round that up to $1M

If someone has better stats, please do feel free to share.

NOW LET'S COMPARE TO SOME OTHER ATHLETES (NOT A Level of course, like NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB or Soccer):

Ping Pong

Zhang Jike, according to Sports Flu made $8.7 million USD in 2016 alone.

The number one in the world, Kento Momota, made just over $1.25 million in 2019. The only other player to top a $1 million is Chen Long. Kento Momota had to win 11 tournaments on the World Tour to make that much.

Darts

The top professional dart players from the PDC can make as much as $1.9 Million (£1.6 Million) a year just from prize money from competing in matches and league play. Most professional dart players also receive sponsorship money as well.

Handball

Mikkel Hansen leading highest paid handball players according sources in 2018 with basic salary of (€1.5 million).

So looking at this the order would be something like:

1) Ping Pong (thanks China)

2) Handball (that's pretty much only Euro)

Mikkel-Hansen-2.jpg

3) Darts (you can drink beers and compete at the highest level simultaneously)

4) UFC HW champion

5) Badminton (pretty close)

6) Bowling (used to be cool)

If you're comparing to the highest earners in other sports, shouldn't you also use the highest earner in the UFC for comparison? I don't believe Francis is anywhere near the highest earning UFC fighter. The highest earning fighters would blow those guys out of the water.

l think only Conor and maybe Jones would be at that level, but those guys are not going to be in the picture for much longer

Yeah but Phill is a 16 time world champion.

And they stopped them drinking during it, ruined the sport. Less fights.

mma without ufc doesn't exist. thats why ufc can "underpay" their fighters

Ngannou didnt make 500k in his last fight, please stop using sites that are full of shit.

NSAC doesnt release fighter payouts anymore, they havent since last summer I believe. So any numbers for UFC 260 are wrong and not official.

Stop using them.

Jones makes more than every American rugby player playing in the American Rugby league, combined.

There. Compared. Done.

fighters get paid way too much, they only work about 20 minutes a night every three months, some even less than that.

Ngannou definitely did not get PPV points. Only champions do.

That really is something that nobody ever seems to point out. If you convert it to an hourly rate, top MMA fighters get paid well. MLB players can make several million a season but they are also playing 160 games a year, and spend half the constantly traveling or practicing. You can't really expect the same from someone who fights twice a year and spends, maximum, 30 minutes in the cage.
