I'm sure by now everyone has seen Dana White's appearance on TSN's "Off The Record" in Canada from this Tuesday where he spoke about the Jon Jones situation and compared him to Ronda Rousey as young champions who have dealt with fame and fortune in completely opposite ways. I stumbled across this editorial from this dude named Matt Boone. He wrote a good piece looking at the completely different routes Rousey and Jones have taken once achieving big levels of success. It's a really fun read, you should check it out. And if you haven't seen the Dana-OTR interview, the video of that is in there too, as well as a transcription of what he said

A real journalist would ask what percentage of revenue goes to the fighters and what goes to the company

ESPN tried doing a lengthy piece on that a few years ago, remember? Dana got all ****-hurt about how they edited the piece, so they uploaded the entire raw footage of Lorenzo's interview with the ESPN reporter dude.

There's obviously a reason they get super-sensitive or uptight when the topic of fighter pay is brought up. Didn't Dana just call a reporter a dick during the Aldo-McGregor world tour for asking Aldo what he thinks about his pay going up now that he's fighting a trash talker, etc.

Jones didn't get the hugs & kisses from Dana, therefore he went down a diff path than Ronda did. Dana created his own monster.

Funny too how so anti-Women's MMA Dana was for so many years, now he's using a chick as his prime example of a model employee at the same time, bashing his most talented and possibly biggest star male athlete in doing so lol. #Irony

His Jones comments weren't bashing, they were an observation.

Wealth, fame and partying in your early 20s is a recipe for disaster for a lot of human beings. Just look at NBA and NFL players. Until the major leagues started serious orientation sessions for their incoming players, a lot of them were getting into tons of trouble.

Nothing like a few ex-players coming in to talk about their spirals into bankruptcy, addiction and ruined careers to really make these young guys think.

I think the UFC might have to start doing some of the same if they're not already. The young often think they're invincible or fall into the trap that they can get out of any mistakes they make. A reality check from some of the veterans might help a few stay on the straight and narrow.

And it isn't just sports stars either. Many music artists and Hollywood stars end up broke or turn into alcoholics, drug addicts, etc for the same reasons. I don't know about the accuracy, but it has been said that 70% of the people who win the lottery end up broke.

Any huge change in a person's lifestyle creates stress whether it is for good reasons or bad reasons. Most minds have been trained for years to be a certain way and when it gets thrown into unknown territory stupid behavior or mistakes occur for many people.
