If there's even a hint of truth to the speculation that Floyd may one day end up in the Octagon under modified rules, compared to the likes of James Toney, he's a cop-out.
James Toney jumped into the octagon to fight a former Heavyweight champ in Couture who was the obvious kryptonite to Toney considering that he had no background in grappling, which happened to be the bread and butter of Couture. That took balls. Very little foresight, but balls nonetheless.
Mayweather is one of the most successful boxers, has the foresight as well as the opportunity to prepare for such a fight in the octagon against a guy he's already beaten on the feet in McGregor. However any time we hear about a potential match between the two it's under the guise of "Modified Rules". Which I find as a cowardly move by the likes of Maywather.
He already has his multiple titles in his chosen craft, why not just put your literal money where your mouth is and step into the octagon like the man he claims to be? Even if he loses his fight in the octagon does it do anything to diminish his past achievements? I don't think it does.
He's still a multiple time boxing champ, and he just helped to legitimize MMA through the eyes of the boxing community, all while making another boatload of cash and riding off into the sunset.
