When Conor fought a few weeks ago, there were literally thousands of threads, and they even had to get merged to make it a couple of hundreds.

Now we have Jones fighting, and there are a few threads, sure - but it isn't even remotely comparable.

Yet Jones is (everyone would probably aggree here) far closer to being a GOAT.

Why is that? Jones has never lost, should be a superhero - not least compared to McGregor who's lost a few times. They also share the notion of being perceived as a "bad guy", and they have both had to deal with a fair deal of wrongdoings outside of the Octagon.

Jones should be AT LEAST as popular as Conor. Why isn't he?

Lots of WWE fans in MMA unfortunately

Because he doesnt knock guys out. McGregors hype would barely exist if his win/loss record remained the same but he won by decision instead

Theres not much marketing thrown behind him because hes a fuck up and the card could easily be off tomorrow if we went by his shit track record. Plus he's more workman like in his approach to fighting these days and has lost the flash that made him must see in his young days

Does Jones have hype?

Jones has zero charisma. His fights are way more boring than Conor's. And he just doesn't have an appealing personality.

Insightful. Also, Jones has fought very often recently - whereas a McGregor fight this day is a rare event - and mostly fought opponents with no hype or even much name recognition (like Cerrone).

This, people prefer a fast and brutal destruction than Jones' methodical and safer approach. Also popularity in sports isn't all about stats and results, or we would just blindly follow bullshit like FightMatrix and always agree on rankings. That would suck and be extremely boring.

Conor is a fuck up, too. Outside of the cage.

I don't think Jones has had a fight canceled. Is it really Jones being suspect of using ped's that leads him to be not as marketable?

Yeah Jones' killer instinct has declined with age. He coasts now, whereas he went for the throat in his younger days.

Nowadays, I - & many others I assume - tune in almost certain he will win but knowing it wont be spectacular. McGregor is willing to lose to do something spectacular which is why the fans stayed with him even in defeat

Conor has always fought more often than Jones since his UFC debut. 13 MMA fights since April 2013 against 9. All the time Conor spent away or boxing was still less than Jones' PED suspensions.

Jones has never fought clean in his life, he is nowhere close to being the GOAT.

If JBJ loses, prepare yourself for thousands of threads....

Sadly 90% of the sherdoggers have the emotional intelligence of a middle school child, they are attracted to extremely vocal people with abusive behaviors.

do u really need an answer for this? kinda like why brock is way more popular than cain

care to explain why jones is more famous than rumble johnson who brutally ko's guys in the first round?

What? He's the reason a whole card was cancelled for the first time ever because he didn't want to fight fucking Chael as a late replacement. He had the fight against Rumble cancelled because of his hit and run, the UFC 200 against Cormier cancelled because of his drug test and the UFC 178 against Cormier cancelled because of a torn meniscus.

Jones should be AT LEAST as popular as Conor.

Based on what?

McGregor is once a generation promotional phenomenon, a perfect storm of arriving at the right time, being able to connect with fans, winning in style and having the UFC fully back him up. Most importantly, he worked tirelessly at creating and promoting his brand over the years since day one - something that Jones never really did and never seemed to care about.

Jones is still pretty much as popular as an accomplished MMA fighter can be. He had his fair share of spotlight, did respectable PPV numbers several times and had (or still has) big time sponsors. He's not as big as Conor, but no one is, and it's fine.

Yes, because Rumble's run of high profile KOs actually lasted only two years and then he retired.
