I was just looking at the new girl wolverine and notice that shit said 4.99$ for the issuse. Is that the normal cost now? That seems high to me. Are they cashing in cause of the movies or has this been the normal for awhile. I stop buying monthly issuses back in the 90s and went to graphic novels once a storyline completed and enjoy them more that way. Kinda like binge watching a season once it finished instead of watching every week. But how can kids afford 5$ a book, are books only release monthly now or weekly?

most books are monthly and I think are 3.99, very few if any are still 2.99, I think inflation plays a factor here but I think comics release less content now, could be wrong

some peoples pull list include several titles, it can be costly but some people don't mind

I undestand inflation but I am wondering what is the rate for comics. Seem high.

2.99 would be a good price,IMO. Maybe 4 for the top sellers i guess. But i havent been into a store in awhile and would like to kid my boy started on a series and see if he like them

The price went from $3 an issue to $4 around the same time that Disney bought Marvel.

And now, they've went up another buck... not a nickel, not a dime, not a quarter, not fifty cents, not seventy five cents, but a whole dollar.

Yup. Definatley inflation.

I'm pretty sure it's inflation

I found this from last yr.

Looking at the sums from October, the average price of a Top Ten comic book is $4.49. And that’s even with the bestseller,*The Walking Dead*selling $2.99.

That’s four at $4.99, one at $2.99, one at $5.99 and four at $3.99.

In comparison, the average price of a top ten comic in October 2004 was $2.69, A 66% increase in price in ten years.

In that time, the USA has experienced only 26% inflation.*

so there is a little more than just inflation.

But Prod, do they still hold value in the long run?

As long as the illustrators/artists are seeing a major pay raise, I'm cool with it.

Are trade paper backs up in price as well? Don't most people just wait for trades?

DC Comics still has several titles that are 2.99

Batman and Robin Eternal
Bat-mite
Constantine
Earth-2 Society
Red Hood Arsenal
Starfire
Batman Beyond
Cyborg
Green Arrow
Lobo
Midnighter
Bizzaro
Dr. Fate
Martian Manhunter
Teen Titans

I'm sure I forgot a few, but they're holding the line pretty well, some of those are pretty good by the way

and if you didn't want to pay that price you could go online on Ebay or a few other sites and pay less usually a few weeks after

Thanks. I will look into those titles. My boy likes the Teen Titian Go cartoon(i do to and thinks it pretty good), so maybe he might like the books too.

and not sure why but the Martin Manhunter sounds good.

not really, it's much more hit than miss, if you want to invest it's usually in either a very limited series or an unknown indy comic that builds up to a classic such as the Walking Dead

Variant covers are usually the target now

Ok. I was wondering about that. I remember the market kinda getting flooded in the 90s with ao much mass produced stuff that everything lost value.

They charge the same price for digital copies, so zero collectible value.

Prod will probably have a more accurate answer, but comics don't generally hold their value like they used to 30+ years ago.

If I paid $2.50 for an X-Men comic in '04, it's probably worth $2.50 today, unless something happened since to make that book unique.

I bet you will also find that there are more titles in print now than in '04. So more books, generally lower quality, higher prices, with little to no investment value.

I briefly was collecting comics back in the early 90's when I had a friend that owned a shop. I got 20% off. I stopped buying at the end of some big crossover thing between the X-men comics. The stories conclusion cost something like $8. I didn't buy it and never bought another one. $8 for a comic? Fuck that.

That's X-23. She's been around for a while, long before Wolverine's death.
