ok so I hadnt heard anything about this guy in a while - and since he is a grunt (Infantry) like I was - I hoped he would get a UFC belt. Looks like since being released from the UFC last year he re-upped in the Army. Which imo is a good choice -- great benefits and good retirement.

Wether he was the best in the UFC is irrelevant to me, he made it there and did well. Tough sob.

He has fought in Iraq.
He is a Graduate of Ranger School & Sapper School, which trust me those are hard schools to get through. Anyways, hope hes doing well. Hope we see more veterans make it to the UFC.

Thanks for your service. What's a sapper?

Sorry, this is sherdog so....

does it have to do with him sapping all the excitement out of the cage when he fights?

Props for what he did outside the cage and for the country

But inside... uhhhh... thanks for what you did outside the cage.

I wouldn't say he did "well" in the UFC having gone 0-3 after the TUF finale.

That being said, he made it to the big leagues of MMA and that alone is an accomplishment that most who compete in MMA will never make. And he won TUF, which is something to be proud of.

Have nothing against military fighting in the UFC. But Smith was boring as fuck and carried himself with the mindset of him being better than others for being in the military. In my opinion, Brian Stann is a better representative of a veteran fighting in MMA.

I'd rather gouge my eyes out than watch Colton Smith fight.

Respect for his military service, but saying that fighting "is too easy" after winning TUF then going 0-3 in the ufc was cringeworthy

It's an advanced school for combat engineers. Similar to "getting your Spurs" in the cavalry. Intense training that goes for days with no sleep. You push your body and mind past the point of breaking.

Edit: and yeah Colton was hard to watch. That was bad and he was p4p one of the most boring fighters ever. Glad he's doing well, but also glad he's not in the UFC.

Usa lost every war theyve been in. Should wait for home field advantage.

Boring fighter but good Soldier that should stick to Combatives

Interesting update. Since when do they send 11Bangers to sapper school? (Unless MOS change)

Was he in the Regiment or just wearing that Ranger school tab?
