Coker changed mind about Fedor...prolly will bankrupt him again

Discussion in 'Worldwide MMA Discussion' started by WarKO, Feb 16, 2016.

Coke was smart initially. Last year he stated Bellator isn't interested in Fedor. It makes sense,
they're a 2nd Tier Promotion mostly made of cut UFC fighters, and they don't have enough fighters or
    funding for Fedor's price tag.

Now Coker is changing his mind and wants to sign Fedor. Bad idea. Anything other than UFC
is a bad idea for Fedor but I'm pretty sure he'd bankrupt Bellator.

How can you say it's a bad idea not knowing the details? If Coker wants to sign Fedor after what happened last time, there must be good reason/reasons for that. Or (puts on tinfoil hat) Coker is an agent sent by the UFC to destroy the competition :D

He didn't change his mind, originally he said

Most fans didn't read beyond that part, but he went on to say

Coker just does not get "Fedor"

Fedor had nothing but trouble from Coker

Coker should stick to putting over larger than life American fighters and leaving Fedor alone

Viacom going bankrupt is laughable. Zuffa is a bitch company compared to Viacom.

Strikeforce was sold for a profit. Not bankrupted.

    Know the difference.

Not a fan of seeing Fedor fight in a cage. Looks awkward when he's not in a ring.

Op must be trolling. Viacom makes over 2 billion dollars revenue each year. Even if they paid fedor 1 million it would be nothing for them.

You have to understand Viacom isn't sitting there with a open check book. In fact Viacom may be the worse enemy of Bellator in the end. If it isn't making money and making Spike look bad in the eyes of Viacom they won't think twice of folding shop up on it. It is a business first and foremost. Having a guy who is going to make at least a million a fight on card is hard for Bellator to make money on under there current system.

P.S. You should dig around and see what Spike was paying Bellator per a show under Bjorn. It was laughable and that is being nice.

    Bbbbut but Viacom.... billions!!!!!

But seriously it is funny whenever people bring up Viacom and thus Bellator has billions of dollars for use. As if Viacom==Bellator. Viacom has dozens of channels and many other properties. Bellator is just one show on one channel. They aren't going to invest more than a small piece of the pie in them unless there is a really good chance it will pay off.

This is really basic business, how don’t you get it? Bellator is not Viacom, it is simply another business that they own. That business has to survive, make a profit, and grow just like any other business. Bellator doesn’t have a Viacom checkbook, they have a Bellator checkbook. The only involvement Viacom executives would have would be periodic conference calls to discuss business strategies, projections, profit reports, etc… If Bellator gets into the red, Viacom will do what any smart company does, sell.

This is really basic stuff anyone over 20 should understand.

Why would he sign Fedor to fight for Bellator when he can get his hands on him via Rizin's shared events? I want to ask "who will he fight" but quickly remembered that he's debut was against Jaideep. I'll be happy if he fights someone who has more than 2 fights this time. Fedor vs Bendo...make it happen Coker.

They wanted to sell it before the first round of their biggest project over and only a year and a half after trying to expand nationally?

It was nothing in their checkbook to air Gym Rescue. They still cancelled it after three episodes.

I'm not sure if your all that familiar with the terms, but that is what venture capitalists do. They venture into a new market, and flip for a quick buck.

The reason the UFC paid 40 mil for Strikeforce was because the UFC was about to head on over to fox, leaving spike up for grabs. Coker mentions this. Stating that, had he known that the UFC was leaving spike, he would have tried to get sf on showtime and spike. Strikeforce was breaking even on fedor events, but making money on the others

cokers thoughts are interesting in this article
